As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, CNS Healthcare's mission is to serve the people of our communities. The Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team and performs psychiatric evaluations, evaluation and management services, care coordination, assessments, consultations, medication management, and follow-up appointments for children and adolescents with a variety of mental and behavioral healthcare needs. This position may provide care to occasional youths in transition and/or adults.

  • Provide direct clinical care by conducting psychiatric evaluations, evaluation and management services, care coordination, assessment, consultations, and medication management for children and adolescents, as well as occasionally youths in transition and/or adults.
  • Assess and diagnose according to the criteria outlined in the most recently published Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders.
  • Consult with the individual's caregivers, parents, guardians, personal support system and/or family as well as other professionals from schools, agencies, outside community organizations, and juvenile courts to coordinate care and provide individualized recommendations for treatment.
  • Coordinate integrated care with internal and external provides of mental health, physical health, and substance use disorders.
  • Order and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests as deemed clinically appropriate.
  • Prescribe psychotropic medications including controlled substance and other classifications of medications as deemed clinically appropriate and provide medication monitoring including individual compliance with medication regime, effects, and side effects.
  • Recommend and encourage the use of increased prescriptions for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for tobacco, alcohol, and opioid use disorders when clinically appropriate.
  • Prescribe FDA-approved medications to treat alcohol and opioid use disorders.
  • Provide education regarding chronic health conditions, disease process, healthy lifestyle management, vaccinations, and medication management including risks, benefits, and side effects.
  • Provide consultation by participating in case reviews, recommending appropriate treatment approaches, committees, grant submissions, peer reviews, advanced practice provider collaboration, supporting residents, fellows, and trainees, and contributing to the establishment of psychiatric programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide consultation to internal staff on the delivery of children and adolescent programming and quality outcome metrics.
  • Engage in publication opportunities.
  • Testify in judicial proceedings on matters concerning petitions and affidavits for persons served.
  • Participate in monthly on-call rotation as assigned.
  • Adhere to and maintain compliance with proper guidelines and procedures to maintain a safe, hygienic environment including infection control, medical waste, pharmaceutical waste, and sharps disposal.
  • Utilize motivational interview strategies and a trauma-informed approach to engage with and provide service to individuals.
  • Complete all required documentation completely, accurately, and in accordance with CNS
  • Meet direct service productivity and documentation standards per agency and program expectations.
  • Maintain compliance with quality care initiatives including Meaningful Use (MU), Medicare Merit Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) requirements.
  • Ensure that the CNS Healthcare standards of service are applied to interactions with individuals served, guests, and staff.
  • Assume responsibility for professional growth by current reading and attendance at educational programs and conferences.
  • Maintain knowledge and compliance with established policies and procedures, corporate compliance program, code of ethics, applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, HIPAA standards, and other regulatory programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required
  • Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited School of Medicine
  • Completion of a residency in Psychiatry and fellowship in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Must obtain or possess and maintain Child Mental Health Processional (CMHP) credential within 90 days of employment.
  • Active board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Current, unrestricted, State of Michigan license to practice as a medical doctor.
  • Valid and unrestricted Michigan controlled substance license.
  • A Controlled Substance Registration Certificate, for schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4 and 5 from the Drug Enforcement Administration of the United States department of Justice (DEA).
  • A current and unrestricted DATA 2000 Waiver to treat opioid use disorders from the DEA
  • Current and unrestricted Drug Enforcement Agency registration.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Prior clinical experience and demonstrated proficiency in medical management, crisis, and behavior management techniques for children and adolescents.
  • Knowledge and experience with interventions used to treat psychiatric, substance use, intellectual, and developmental disabilities and diagnoses.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology used in a mental health setting
  • Experience with the application of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in health care organizations
  • Proficient with computers, Microsoft office products, and the use of electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team, communicate effectively, work collaboratively, and build positive working relationships
  • Ability to use discretion and judgment when handling matters of a sensitive or confidential nature
  • Advanced time management, problem solving, customer service, interpersonal, conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to be forward thinking and take initiative to accomplish goals and objectives of the department

  • Valid and unrestricted Michigan Driver's License
  • Reliable transportation and current proof of auto insurance
Preferred
  • At least 1 year of experience as a licensed psychiatrist providing face-to-face, clinical services in any of the following settings: Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, Community Mental Health Center Psychiatric Hospital, State facility, Ambulatory Behavioral Health, Crisis Center, Substance Use Facility, Partial Hospital Program, Residential Program, or similar
  • Experience in psychiatry with children, adolescents, and families
  • Completion of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship
  • Additional Board certification in Child and Adolescent psychiatry
  • Proficient with health registries including the Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS), PMP AWARxE Program, Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
  • General knowledge of the community mental health system based on the Michigan Mental Health Code and MDHHS contracts
