As a valued partner on our team, you will be one of the People Who Make It Happen Summary The Transportation Project Engineer 1 is responsible for performing advanced levels of engineering calculations, alternatives analysis, design and drafting for a variety of large, complex transportation projects including sidewalks, bike paths, local roadways, intersections, highways, freeways, and other transportation facilities. Duties may include site visits, preparing CAD mark-ups, geometric roadway layout and design, performing 3D corridor modeling, writing project specifications and technical reports, calculating construction quantities, estimating construction costs, coordinating with clients and stakeholders, drafting scope and budget documents for transportation-related tasks, and preparing project correspondence. The person in this position is expected to exercise a strong work ethic, desire to learn new design concepts, and have excellent organizational and communication skills. A successful Transportation Project Engineer 1 should demonstrate advanced proficiency with design and drafting fundamentals in at least one software platform, be able to quickly learn, apply and teach new 2D and 3D design concepts quickly with limited oversight, and mentor others with less experience. Project Delivery Produces the following independently and oversees others with less experience: Technical reports and memos Specifications Construction quantity calculations and cost estimates Design documents and construction plans Breakdown of costs and scope of work - basic Schedules - basic Proposal technical approach Understanding Budget and Schedule Advanced understanding of scopes, schedules, and budgets. Develops budgets and schedules for complex tasks. Breaks down complex projects into logical tasks. Able to prioritize multiple assignments to successfully deliver all assigned projects on time and on budget. Mentors others on above. Industry Standards and Regulations Interprets, selects, and employs the following design codes with advanced skill: AASHTO and FHWA - Advanced Local Client - Advanced Actively mentor others on interpreting design codes Understands limitations of design codes Client Interaction Frequent direct communications with clients to resolve technical issues on moderate to complex projects. Leads client project meetings. Understands appropriate messaging and legal risks. Other Other duties as assigned. Level of Work/Accountability Performs advanced levels of technical work on large, complex projects as a trusted technical member of the market sector. Operates with a high level of autonomy. Reviews the work of others. May perform some assistant project management tasks. Provides technical guidance on proposals.
