JOB SUMMARY

The Speech/Language Pathologist evaluates and treats patients requiring speech-language therapy. Will provide patient care as prescribed by the referring physician, including evaluation and assessment, design of treatment programs, implementation and supervision of treatment. Will also maintain and update patient case files.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Two year of experience as a speech language pathologist or TEP preferred.
  • LSVT Loud Certified preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Current State Licensure in Speech Pathology.

Clinical Environment

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and plan a course of therapy to resolve or minimize speech/voice/language/cognitive/swallowing conditions which present serious problems to social contact, educational development or employment opportunities.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is include in teaching as appropriate.
  • Prepares reports related to Speech/Language Pathology activities, including performance improvement activities. Intercedes for the patient when dietary revisions are necessary to prevent aspiration
  • Develops and implements effective treatment programs in consultation with physicians.
  • Treats patients in accordance with Speech/Language Pathology standards of care and practice.
  • Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
Functional Skills
  • Performs therapy interventions utilizing standard therapy techniques and skills as appropriate for the condition of the patient.
  • Knowledge of infection, control, sterile technique and related impact on rehabilitative medicine practice and equipment.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Educates and counsels patient and family regarding treatment plans.
  • Maintains clinical records and follows performance improvement recommendations.
  • Plans and/or assists with patient discharge from speech therapy services.
  • Provides information regarding appropriate support programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of principles of growth and development over an individual's life span.
  • Proficient in English verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to the public and health care professionals.
