Job Description
General Summary:
The IT PMO / Project Manager will be responsible for leading, planning, and overseeing the successful delivery of IT projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management methodologies, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of managing IT projects within scope, time, and budget constraints.
In addition to managing one or two key projects, the IT PMO / Project Manager will oversee the portfolio of IT projects across the enterprise and provide guidance to project owners and IT Leadership to improve project delivery results. Leveraging their experience in IT project management, the IT PMO / Project Manager will define a framework of project management standard processes and tools to be used across the IT organization based on the relative size and complexity of IT projects.
This position reports to the Chief Information Officer and is located in Simsbury, CT.
PMO Responsibilities
- Governance: Establish and maintain project management governance structures and processes to ensure consistent project delivery and alignment with organizational standards.
- Portfolio Management: Oversee the project portfolio, ensuring that all projects are prioritized, resourced, and managed to deliver optimal business value.
- Performance Measurement: Implement performance measurement systems to track project progress, resource utilization, and delivery of benefits.
- Training and Development: Identify training needs and facilitate the development of project management competencies within the organization.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project management practices and increase the IT's value to the organization.
- Standards and Methodologies: Define and promote the use of standard project management methodologies, tools, and best practices across the organization.
- Reporting and Communication: Ensure that accurate and timely project reports are generated and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and implement project plans that align with organizational goals and objectives.
- Coordinate and manage project resources, including team members, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Monitor project progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure successful completion.
- Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders and senior management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and legal regulations.
- Facilitate collaboration across departments to achieve project objectives.
- Conduct post-project evaluations to determine areas for improvement and lessons learned.

- Project Management: Proven ability to manage large-scale IT projects, including defining project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business objectives.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, software development life cycles, and current technology trends.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex data, identify project risks, and devise contingency plans.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide project teams to achieve project goals.
- Time Management: Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate issues and implement solutions.
- Financial Acumen: Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial management as it relates to IT projects.
- Quality Management: Commitment to quality and continuous improvement, with experience in implementing quality assurance processes.
- Vendor Management: Experience in managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts to support project needs.
- Change Management: Ability to manage change effectively and ensure project changes are communicated and understood by all stakeholders.
- Documentation: Proficiency in creating detailed project documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment. A strong team player able to build relationships and work closely with peers and customers, vendors, etc. with a high degree of self-management and able to self-direct with minimal supervision.
- Display willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound and accurate judgment, include appropriate people in decision-making process, make timely decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field
- 5 - 10 years of experience in project management in an IT environment.
- Certification in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficient in project management software and tools.
