Mentor JUMP Juvenile Mentoring Program
Service Description: Mentor JUMP For Kankakee County Kids is a 1-year commitment to complete a minimum of 100 hours for a stipend of $1,000 and an Education Award of $388.03 with successful completion of service hours. The Kankakee County State's Attorney's Office utilizes AmeriCorps members and volunteers to serve in the JUMP for Kankakee County Kids one-to-one juvenile mentoring and job readiness program. JUMP partners community leaders and professionals with court-involved teenage youth at risk of academic failure, truancy, or involvement in delinquent activities in Kankakee County, Illinois. AmeriCorps members and volunteers will be responsible for reducing truancy rates and increasing educational scores among the service population, while also placing mentees into full and part-time employment and internship opportunities. AmeriCorps members and volunteers will be engaged in mentoring the target service population, program oversight, attending mentee's court dates, and providing regular updates/reports to the juvenile's judge and/or courtroom advocates.
Member Duties : Member Duties: Engage with mentees one-on-one at least 8 hours per month and maintain regular communication through phone calls, texts, emails, etc. *Engage in activities with the mentee that improve the well-being of the mentee by providing a role model that can support the child academically, socially, or personally *Assist mentee in completing program requirements including educational assistance, career or college planning, mock-interviews, resume preparation and assistance with summer employment. *Perform at least 18 hours of community service with your mentee. *Track student progress and compile reports on match progress, mentor hours, and mentee participation *Communicate with mentee and mentee's parents/guardians, and JUMP staff. *Complete provided continuing education programs. *Attend program-sponsored special events. *Attend meetings and events as scheduled including monthly mentor meetings. *Marketing, recruitment, and fundraising *Other duties as assigned
