JOB TITLE: School Nurse
REPORTS TO: Director of Health Services
EMPLOYMENT AND FLSA STATUS: Classified/Non-Exempt/Hourly
POSITION PURPOSE:
To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- School Nurse for pre-K through 12th grade (includes Special Education)
- Duties include medication administration, g-tube feedings, catheterizations, diabetic care, tracheotomy care, and other skilled nursing procedures.
- Participation in student case conferences and care plan development also required. Experience with special education students or school nursing is preferred.
- Work hours are 7:30-2:30pm. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Minimum requirement RN license and at least two years of experience as a nurse.
- Other responsibilities assigned by district nurse.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Indiana school health laws.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding school health laws.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to develop and implement projects.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 180 days per school year
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluations of School Administrators.
