Custom Job Purpose:

This position exists to support the implementation of Senate Bill 7026, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. The Senior Coordinator, Mental Health will organize and assist in the implementation of all mental health requirements as outlined in the MSD Public Safety Act. Serve as direct liaison between the School Safety Department; the Office of Safe Schools; and school based, contracted and community based Mental Health Services. Coordinate with the Director of Student Services through districtwide activities for the provision of mental health and related services for students in need. Supervise, manage and oversee all aspects of Coordinators and Mental Health Facilitators.

Essential Functions of this Job

Plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates all aspects of mental health awareness in conjunction with student services personnel and the District Leadership and Implementation Teams. Works with community partners/agencies to develop protocols that will result in increased information sharing, collaboration, and mental health services for Polk County Schools. Establish and implement districtwide processes for student referrals for mental health services. Collect, analyze, and report data per state requirements of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Act. Facilitate collaboration with community agencies and service providers including the development of contracts and MOUs. Provide oversight of all mental health professional development districtwide. Ensure protocols are adhered to for Threat & Risk Assessments of students. Assist the Director of School Safety in the development of procedures during emergency response drills including those for active shooters. Assist the Director of Discipline to meet requirements for access to mental health services for students demonstrating a need as a result of disciplinary incidents. The Senior Coordinator, Mental Health Services will report to the Director, Behavioral and Mental Health Support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of mental health support and services. Ability to plan, organize, implement, and monitor programs and services. Ability to develop professional relationships with community service providers and county resources to support the mental health needs for students. Outstanding interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills are needed to work effectively with students, parents, district and school personnel, and community agencies.

Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college or university in a mental health (or related) field with a Master's degree is required. Prior experience with leading or supervising mental health providers is preferred. Youth Mental Health First Aid and PREPaRE (Prevent, Reaffirm, Evaluate, Provide and Respond, Examine) certification must be obtained within one year of placement in the position. Experience in professional development, crisis intervention, and collaborative teaming is required.

Work Context:

Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, and with the public.

Physical Environment:

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions and outdoors at times. Requires sitting, standing, moving about, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds. Requires travel to schools and worksites within the district.
