Workforce Group is seeking an experienced Floodplain Manager to assist with disaster recovery efforts in Florida. The Floodplain Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with floodplain management regulations during rebuilding efforts and will coordinate closely with local, state, and federal agencies. This position ensures that recovery efforts align with National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations, minimizing future flood risks and promoting sustainable development. Short-term Assignment / Contract
Responsibilities:
- Review and approve building permits for projects within designated flood zones, ensuring compliance with NFIP, FEMA, and local floodplain ordinances.
- Provide guidance on floodplain management regulations to builders, developers, and municipal authorities during recovery efforts.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and emergency response teams to ensure structures in flood-prone areas meet safety standards.
- Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to assess flood risks and advise on rebuilding strategies.
- Coordinate with FEMA, state agencies, and municipalities to update and enforce flood maps and local floodplain ordinances.
- Conduct inspections to verify that recovery efforts comply with local, state, and federal floodplain management regulations.
- Assist property owners in obtaining elevation certificates and participate in the NFIP compliance process.
- Educate the public, contractors, and government officials about floodplain regulations and best practices to reduce future risks.
- Other related job duties as required.
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential preferred.
- Knowledge of FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations and the Florida Building Code.
- Experience working with GIS software and flood mapping tools.
- Prior experience in floodplain management, environmental planning, or disaster recovery preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Familiarity with permit processes and compliance issues related to floodplain development.
- Experience in disaster recovery, emergency management, or expedited permitting processes preferred.
- Ability to interpret flood maps and hydrological data.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with contractors, municipal agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines during disaster recovery efforts.
- Experience with FEMA Elevation Certificate procedures and NFIP permitting.
