Job Summary

We are seeking a part-time Physical Therapist to join a true interdisciplinary rehab and pain management team

Dr. Grodofsky is the founder and primary provider of Philly Smart Pain and Wellness. As a UPenn-trained interventional pain specialist, he has always aspired to think outside the box and do what is right for patients.

The current state of PT and pain management is flawed. With ridiculous production pressures and awful reimbursement by insurance, it makes what should be an exciting field and opportunity to help the lives of rehab patients into a state that forces physical therapists to conform to silly standards to hit the bottom line to survive. Pain Management on the other hand is an exercise in magical thinking- somehow temporary steroids squirted into the body fix problems. This idea is so dumb but at Philly Smart Pain, the model of care is simple- use pain procedures to manage symptoms and improve the quality of movement and active-based therapy.

Also, in case the association of pain management and pill mills scares you, we are not a pill mill.

Philly Smart Pain and Wellness offers something much different than the status quo. We need a PT willing to do what is right for the patient, focus on one-on-one care, and build strength and fitness for patients in our facility. You can work without a boss breathing down your neck and instead find a physician collaborator who values your talents and input into a true interdisciplinary care model.

It gets even better than that. As you can see from the tone of this job offer, you are not working for a corporate stooge or a "hospital suit" who is more concerned about numbers on an Excel spreadsheet than impacting the lives of others. Instead, you will be a part of a caring medical care team in a small business setting. The employees working here have fun at their job rather than being a cog in the system. We are mission-based and work hard because of our values rather than because we are forced to.

We are looking for someone to work 2 or 3 days a week (depending on your preferences). You need to be okay with working with the chronic pain population (who are not drug addicts but have issues such as akinesia, fear-avoidant behaviors, and learned helplessness). You need to be comfortable being able to practice unsupervised but you will be working with an incredible PTA and in coordination with an open-minded physician.
