Description

If you are interested in a great part-time customer and safety-focused position in the transit industry, our Part-Time Bus Ambassador may be a great way to share your outgoing, positive demeanor with others. Bus Ambassadors will provide the highest level of passenger customer service and safety awareness to ensure CATS riders have the best experience possible. All Ambassadors will be committed to providing every aspect of the CATS Mission and TMOC Ethos during interaction with our riders, terminal guests, company officials, and others. Exceptional on-demand customer and safety focus is paramount.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Rides CATS Buses on specified routes at designated times to provide and assist with customer/rider relations.
  • Interacts/engages with CATS/TMOC personnel, the public, and others to establish an official presence while ensuring customer codes of conduct are being followed.
  • Provides various routine assistance to CATS/TMOC personnel; completes forms and writes basic reports; enters data into appropriate computer database or application; submits reports to company officials.
  • Assists passengers with fare system issues and addresses questions to help ensure payments are collected by conducting fare inspections; assists passengers who are having difficulties using the fare system and addresses related concerns.
  • Assists passengers with transfers; helps guide customers to access alternate bus or train services during regular service as well as in the event of a service disruption.
  • Answers passenger inquiries and always maintains a courteous and friendly demeanor.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of the bus and light rail system to answer all customer inquiries and provide directions when asked.
  • Observes activities at rail stations and transit centers and helps maintain a safe and clean environment for passengers. Occasionally removes and disposes of litter on transit vehicles to help maintain a clean environment.
  • Handles customer compliments and concerns equally with a calm and pleasant demeanor; attempts to address customer's issues however recognize when escalation to the next level of authority is warranted.
  • Ensures a commitment to safety through consistent and professional behaviors in the performance of all job functions.
  • Observes and reports any type of suspicious activity and/or behavior to the appropriate personnel, and requests assistance as necessary and appropriate.
  • Works with management to perform outreach within the community and participate in departmental efforts including informational presentations.
  • Participates in and successfully completes required training. (i.e., de-escalation training)
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact courteously with the public and others.
  • Safely assist riders with limited abilities board, secure seating, and de-board various modes of transit.
  • Submit to and pass Non-DOT Physical examination and pre-employment drug screenings.
  • Physical ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, walk within transit facilities, climb stairs, and do other moderate physical activity.
  • Ability to meet criminal background check requirements and other pre-employment prerequisites.
  • Must be able to work variable shifts and irregular hours. Attends scheduled shifts and times dependably.
  • Must be able to communicate in the English Language both orally and written. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
