Nurse Practitioner Resident

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) Resident is a licensed, newly graduated NP participating in a structured, post-graduate, 13-month residency program designed to enhance clinical competency, professional standards, and confidence. The resident provides comprehensive patient care while receiving supervised, mentored training in a family practice setting. The program features over 18 specialty rotations within the community. This residency program supports the transition to independent practice through a combination of hands-on patient care, didactic education, and professional development opportunities.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
• Must be a recent graduate from a MSN or DNP Family Nurse Practitioner program that is accredited by CCNE or ACEN
• Must have obtained a certification and license to practice not longer than 18 months before the start of the residency program
• Must be licensed in Idaho and credentialed by program start date
• BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of start
Essential Functions:
Patient management (Under precepted supervision):
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including obtaining a health history, performing a physical exam, and interpreting
labs.
• Managing chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes
• Analyzes reports and findings and diagnoses condition.
• Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient's condition.
• Advises patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease.
• Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic
procedures. Orders inoculations and vaccinations for patients to immunize from communicable diseases. Performs minor
surgery. Refers patients to medical specialist or other practitioner for specialized treatment.
• Treats a mixed patient population, across gender, age and ethnicity, as well as insure and uninsured patients.
• Records and/or signs off on physical findings. And formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient's condition, in patient's
electronic chart in accordance with established standards.
• Reports births, deaths, and outbreak of contagious diseases to governmental authorities.
Clinical Rotations:
• Participate in clinical rotations in specialty clinics (cardiology, dermatology, wound care etc.)
Education and development:
• Attend didactic lectures and seminars.
• Participate in journal assignments.
• Receive regular feedback and mentorship.
• Engage in quality improvement projects.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
• Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
• Participates in peer reviews.
• Heritage Health staff have an active role in our Patient Centered Medical Home model of care. This role is designated as part of
the Heritage Health PCMH Care Team.
Training Outcomes:
As the Residency is a training program, at completion, the Resident will be expected to meet the following outcomes:
1. Provide patient-centered care that is compassionate, culturally sensitive, valued, appropriate and effective for the treatment of both common and uncommon health conditions as well as the promotion of health.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving bio-psycho- social, clinical, epidemiological, nursing, medical, or other health sciences, and other bodies of knowledge as appropriate for the provision of evidence-based patient care.
3. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate one's own practice and improve outcomes of patient care based on best available evidence, constant self-evaluation, and life-long learning.
4. Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with patients, their families, and interdisciplinary team.
5. Demonstrate a commitment to carrying out professional roles and responsibilities and adherence to ethical principles.
6. Demonstrate an awareness of and responsiveness to the larger context and system of health care, as well as the ability to seek out appropriate services.
7. Demonstrate the ability to practice within an Interdisciplinary team in a manner that optimizes safe, effective patient- and population-centered care.
8. Demonstrate qualities required to sustain lifelong learning and professional development.
