Job Title: Surgical Services Operating Room RN Job No: Department: Surgical Services Salary Grade: Reports to: Director Surgical Services FLSA: Job Summary: The registered nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses patient needs, develops the plan of care, creates nursing diagnoses, implements interventions and evaluates patient care throughout the patient's hospitalizationFunctions and Duties: Functions within the scope of practice as defined by respective certification/license Maintains an environment that preserves individual dignity and respect for privacy and confidentiality Acknowledges and respects cultural, generational, socio-economical, and educational diversities and interacts professionally Interacts with patients and families according to age and developmental levels Accountable for maintaining an attitude and behavior that is in accordance with the hospital mission, vision and values Fosters and maintains a safe workplace Promotes harmonious relationships among the healthcare team Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to regulatory, organizational, and departmental changes Demonstrates an ability to prioritize, organize and perform under stressful/non-stressful situations Conscious of the needs of others; offers assistance when necessary and provides service with a sense of compassion and empathy Sustains self-motivation for professional and personal growth Accountable for maintaining an attitude and behavior that exhibits pride in your work and the organization Remains knowledgeable of and responsible for job duties while maintaining poise in a variety of situations Maintains professional appearance in accordance with dress code policy; considers the effects of appearance on customer expectations and needs of specific job environment Assess, develops and evaluates own goals for professional growth. Maintain self-motivation and productivity utilizing effective time management skills Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal skills Ensures Pre-op Checklist is complete (H&P present, informed consent signed, test results present, surgical site identified, etc.) before patient is taken into surgical suite. Effectively communicates with the physician in accounting for all sponges, needles and instruments during and after the procedure and documents in the appropriate area. Is able to perform all duties of OR circulating nurse, PACU RN, and GI circulating RN. Performs all other duties as assigned Unit Specific Duties: • Performing role of circulator in surgical cases• Performing role of circulator in GI cases• Assisting with GI procedures• Deliver nursing care to PACU patients• Setting up the operating room prior to surgery Stocking surgical supplies Checking surgical machines and equipment Transporting patients to and from surgery Passing instruments to surgeons during surgery Preparing patients for procedures in the surgical suite Minimum Qualifications: Education• Graduate of an accredited School of NursingCertifications, Licenses, and Registrations• Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Illinois• CPR certified• ACLS certified• PALS Certified• CNOR preferredSkills and Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to use critical thinking skills and problem solve effectively. Computer literate. Computer literacy content focuses on computer basics and the use of generic software applications such as word processing, presentation software, and the use of electronic communication such as email. Knowledge and use of EHR (electronic health record). Fosters team work and team building. Coordinates daily duties of Operating Room team members to assure safe, efficient performance of surgical procedures. Collaborates with Medical, Surgical, and Ancillary staff in regards to surgical procedures, to assure quality, safe, patient care for our surgical patients. Consults and interacts diplomatically and professionally with patients, families and all members of the surgical team. Demonstrates complete knowledge of infection control and surgical processes, and actively supports and promotes strict adherence to policies and procedures as outlined by the department and facility. When requested, is willing to adjust personal schedule in order to complete workload in support of department needs. Is available for additional duties within scope of training. Identifies and maintains a professional working relationship with all employees, physicians, and both internal and external customers. Routinely interacts and fosters relationship with both internal and external customers to maintain awareness of needs and satisfaction of services provided. Communicates with other staff members and physicians. Identifies problems/issues which interfere with clinic practice and consults with/reports to clinic manager when appropriate. Utilizes best practices. Ability to adapt to continually changing environment Able to accept constructive criticism and accept own limits Emotional and mental stability needed to maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients, families and health team member Physical Demands: Sit or stand for a prolonged period of time Prolonged walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and sitting may be required. Exposure to blood borne pathogens. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Pressure due to multiple demands.
