Pharmacy Technician - Full Time - Days

Pharmacy Technicians/Inpatient assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians/inpatient work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Procures and distributes medications per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Receives shipments from vendors and restocks pharmacy and OTC areas with medications and supplies.
  • Assists the pharmacist in filling prescriptions.
  • Assists pharmacists in resolving insurance issues.
  • Rotates and manages stock before expiration date.
  • Generates reports and labels as required.
  • Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately, files documentation in appropriate locations.
  • Keeps pharmacy neat, clean, and well-organized; keeps pharmacy equipment clean.
  • Provides excellent customer service, e.g., answering phones and attending to cash register.
  • Delivers prescriptions to patient's bedside when requested.
  • Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Education - High School diploma/equivalent.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience - 2-3 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Certification and Licensure - New York State license and registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT-Adv) is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, and IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
Location and Travel Requirements:
  • Onsite - Cayuga Medical Center - 101 Dates Drive Ithaca NY 14850
  • Shift - Day - Mon-Fri - 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM or 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Pay Range Disclosure
  • $18.23 to $23.04 per hour
