Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We're Looking For:

Iridium is seeking a self-motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Iridium Product Engineering Team. As a member of the Product Development Team, you'll be responsible for technical product ownership to include product design, design support, product manufacturability, product sustainability, partner design integration, design validation, and product regulatory compliance.

What You'll Do:

  • Be responsible for product development efforts, partner design integration, design verification and design support for internal and external customers
  • Develop and improve data products, reference designs, supporting documentation, and supplemental materials for partners, quality, supply chain, manufacturing, and regulatory stakeholders
  • Investigate, determine strategies and actions for issues and risks in new and existing designs
  • Manage and prioritize assignments for multiple hardware development projects adhering to deadlines, policies and procedures
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders to support the technical needs of large complex team projects and new product developments
  • Manage design data, storage, revision control, engineering changes, configuration control, and database administration

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field
  • 8+ years' progressive experience in an engineering role, with experience in product and tooling designs
  • Knowledge of best practices for dimension and tolerancing for life cycle management
  • Knowledge of injection molding, metal stamping fabrication processes and tool design
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic
  • Build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of the team
  • Think laterally, provide analysis, make suggestions, and implement processes that improve product quality, reliability, and longevity
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions
  • Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others
  • Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met
  • Possess effective Microsoft Windows and Office skills, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Working knowledge of regulatory and material compliance standards
  • Experience working with remote global teams
  • Experience using Atlassian management tools
  • Knowledge of laboratory test equipment, environmental and reliability test methods, and analysis
  • Knowledge of FMEA, Gage R&R, and six sigma methodologies
  • Knowledge of life cycle management and best practices that can maximize component and product design longevity

We'll also need you to:

  • Be able to travel up to 15% annually
  • Be able to travel internationally
  • Willing and able to support activities outside of standard work hours in your time zone
  • US Citizenship is required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer. For in-person meetings, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
