Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Location: New York, NY
Contract Length: 7 Weeks
Shift: Day Shift (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
Job Type: Contract

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Care:
    • Provide comprehensive, specialized nursing care to critically ill or injured pediatric patients in the PICU.
    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient needs and conditions.
    • Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Monitor vital signs, lab results, and other clinical data to assess patient condition and detect changes.
    • Provide mechanical ventilation and assist with respiratory support as necessary.
    • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to manage complex pediatric cases.
  • Family and Patient Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing updates on treatment, progress, and expected outcomes.
    • Offer emotional support to families, answering questions, and providing comfort during critical care episodes.
    • Educate families on post-discharge care and management, ensuring clear instructions are provided.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Work closely with pediatric intensivists, physicians, respiratory therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care.
    • Attend daily rounds and participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review patient progress and adjust care plans as needed.
    • Support the healthcare team by assisting with complex procedures, including intubations, central line insertions, and other high-acuity interventions.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Document all assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control practices, and regulatory standards.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records to support quality improvement initiatives and ongoing patient care.
  • Safety and Critical Care Management:
    • Maintain a high standard of patient safety, adhering to protocols and best practices in critical care.
    • Respond quickly and effectively to emergent situations, including code blue and other critical care events.
    • Administer emergency medications, perform CPR, and assist with life-saving interventions when needed.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Valid and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred but not required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Nursing (PICU).
    • Experience in a high-acuity pediatric or neonatal environment is strongly preferred.
    • Recent experience in critical care or pediatric ICU setting is required.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required.
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification required.
    • CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) or CPN (Certified Pediatric Nurse) certifications preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
    • Ability to handle complex, high-pressure, and emotionally challenging situations.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on patient- and family-centered care.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team setting.
    • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
