Quality Inspector

The primary result expected from the Quality Inspector is to monitor and measure finished goods, WIP, and purchased materials/components for conformance to specifications. The Quality Inspector will identify and help resolve production problems. The majority of the Quality Inspector’s time (80% or more) will take place inspecting products and materials on the production floor. The Quality Inspector may also participate in the pre-production and PPAP processes to create documentation and measurement of parts. Participation and application of problem-solving techniques and continuous improvement principles will be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluates/Inspects finished goods, work in progress, raw materials, and purchased components for conformance to specifications.
- Assist operators with daily quality issues, training, and problem solving.
- Interact with product/manufacturing engineering and operations personnel to investigate and resolve quality issues to maintain high product quality levels.
- Perform internal quality system audits.
- Quality data entry/analysis as required; maintain quality records; develop/maintain/communicate quality metrics.
- Assist/coordinate quality training for operators.
- Create/maintain quality procedures, work instructions, and other documentation.
- Collaborate with Product Design and Manufacturing Engineering to determine inspection criteria of product.
- Test products and materials as required.
- Ability to assist with implementation/maintenance/improvement of quality systems necessary to support ISO 9001 compliance.
- Maintain PPAP samples.
- Complete quality system project work as assigned.
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong understanding of MRP system.
- Understanding of BOM structures.
- Able to read and fully understand detailed engineering drawings and quality specifications.
- Proficient with most common types of measuring devices (calipers, height gages, micrometers, etc)
- Ability to perform critical thinking and complex problem solving.
- Able to work independently, be a self-starter and meet deadlines.
- Shows moral courage, integrity, openness, and honesty in all dealings.
- Able to seek out root cause, and work to implement solutions to correct quality issues.
- Must have customer’s best interest in mind and be able to work with shift supervision to immediately contain any quality issues (stop machine, remove mold, etc).

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Computer proficiency and the ability to accurately enter data and generate reports.

- Ability to use measuring devices correctly and accurately.
- Ability to travel up to 5% of the time if necessary.
- Ability to work overtime if requested.
Education: High school diploma required; some secondary education preferred.
Experience and/or Training: Prior experience in a quality assurance function in a manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
Licenses/Certificates: No certifications required.
Technology/Equipment: Demonstrated knowledge in the use of current technology. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products. Proficient with most common types of measuring devices (calipers, height gages, micrometer, etc). Prefer experience with CMMs and/or portable CMM/scan arm (such as ROMER/FARO Arm).
Communication: The ability to read, speak, and comprehend English is required
PHYSICAL and MENTAL DEMANDS:
- This position spends some time sitting, standing, and walking through a plant environment.
- This position may climb stairs throughout the day.
- Frequent lifting of parts/products (Up to 40Ibs.)
- Manual dexterity is required to perform normal day to day functions.
- Ability to comprehend complex situations and problem solve issues.
- Ability to accurately perform measuring, use simple math equations and fractions, understand measurements and measurement tools.
- Always presents self in a calm professional manner.
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The working environment for this position will mostly be on the floor in the production arena. This will occupy 80% or more of the person’s time. There will be a small amount of standard office environment (no more than 20%). The plant environment is partially climate controlled and may include on occasion, exposure to heat, cold, noise, plastic machining debris, and odors. Personal protective equipment is required in appropriate areas. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual would encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.
