Waterspirit, a New Jersey based spiritual ecology nonprofit and a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, desires to grow its advisory board as it transitions to a 501c3 organization. At this time there is a particular need for people with experience in nonprofit law and accounting, although all people with a dedication to protecting sacred water are invited to apply. Waterspirit Board Member Responsibilities:
· Commit to the mission of Waterspirit:
Waterspirit is a spiritual ecology nonprofit that informs, inspires, and empowers people of all beliefs to deepen their consciousness of the sacredness of water and the interdependence of all Earth’s systems.
· Become familiar with Waterspirit’s programming, and keep abreast of new developments. Participate in at least one Waterspirit program.
· Make attending regular meetings of the board a high priority. These meetings happen quarterly. Come prepared to discuss the issues and business to be addressed at scheduled meetings, having read the agenda and all background material relevant to the topics at hand.
· Attend special activities of the Board, including fundraising events, retreats, board training, etc. Every Board member is expected to work on at least one fundraising event.
· Encouraged to serve on ad hoc committees to accomplish particular objectives.
· Support the Executive Director. Work with and respect the opinions of peers who serve on the board.
· Assist in the recruitment of board members, volunteers and committee members to supplement the board.
· Generate support from friends and other contacts (fundraise and friendraise).
· Make a significant personal financial contribution to Waterspirit. (What is significant to be determined by the individual board member.)
· Function as a good will ambassador and spokesperson for Waterspirit and its programs, representing the organization in a positive and supportive manner at all times and in all places.
