Summary of Need:

To provide nursing interventions and medication administration consistent with the established systematic problem-solving approach for the delivery of comprehensive nursing care, which are compliant with the regulatory standards in a correctional setting. Execute medical regimens as prescribed by licensed physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, podiatrists, and dentists. Includes advanced practice nurses such as: clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists. Advanced practice nursing is practiced by RNs who have specialized formal, post-basic education and who function in highly autonomous and specialized roles.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Diagnose and treat a patient's health problems.
  • Execute medical regimens as prescribed by licensed physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, podiatrists, and dentists.

    EKG's and blood draws, as well as have strong assessment skills.
  • Perform health assessments to identify new symptoms of possibly undiagnosed conditions or complications.
  • Administer medication.
  • Manage and deliver restorative or palliative care to the ill, disabled and dying.
  • Teach and counsel patients about maintenance of health and prevention of illness or complications.
  • Contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team and as a consultant on health-related committees to plan and implement the health care needs of consumers.
  • Treat a patient's health problems.
  • Perform health assessments to identify new symptoms of possibly undiagnosed conditions or complications. Administer medication.


Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse in New York State.
  • At least 3 years of psychiatric nursing experience.
  • Experience within a Emergency Room or Hospital setting preferred, but not required.
  • Highly motivated, independent thinker and self-starter.
  • Enthusiastic team player.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage multiple projects. Strong follow-up and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills. (Word processing, office scheduling, familiar with Windows).
  • Familiarity with NYS Quality Management and Nursing Administration.
  • Candidates will be given increased consideration if they have experience in Joint Commission Accreditation, Infection Control, Quality Management and have been employed in a NYS OMH facility.


Shift: Full Time - Days and/or Nights.

Every other weekend and some holidays.

Overtime is not required but permitted.

Contract Length: Up to 6 months
