Job Profile Summary
? This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients . In addition, this role focuses on performing the following CT Scan duties: Utilizes CT Scan Technology to provide images of internal organs, bones, and soft tissue . A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education . Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.
Job Overview
Th is position performs CT scan procedures on Pediatric and Adult Patients according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. Performs CT procedures that follow radiological standards in a safe, accurate and timely manner which are necessary to allow the radiologist and/or physician to make a radiological diagnosis. Performs a variety of CT procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative . Assumes responsibility for designated areas and/or procedures as required . Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.
Job Description
1. Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine, Radiological Technologist program .
2. Radiologic Technologist License .
3 . American Registry of Radiological Technologist (AART) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification (NMTCB) .
4 . Licensed by the Massachusetts Radiation Control Board.
5 . CT Advanced Registry from American Registry of Radiological Technologist (AART) or registry eligible .
6 . Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) c ertified .
7. One ( 1 ) year of experience as a CT Technologist .
Duties and Responsibilities : The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list . Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1 . Maintains and demonstrates proficient and current knowledge in Computed Tomography practice including patient positioning post-processing for routine exams (CTA Head and Neck), ALARA principles.
2. Performs and documents patient assessment/history related to procedures verifies correct patient, imaging site and patient positioning prior to the exam.
3. Provides clear and accurate instructions to patients regarding procedures Verifies correct imaging protocol and scanner parameters for each patient.
4. Applies knowledge and safety principles to ensure patient and staff safety for types of CT equipment used. Is competent to operate all equipment in the department or has requested training in specific areas. Properly warm up CT scanner and run QA, bring up pressure injector, PACs units and Meditech.
5. Able to adjust and manipulate image to required specifications, ie windowing, contrast, algo, separates exams by accession, create reformatted images, etc.
6. Selects proper scanning levels depending upon field of scan and organ selected.
7. Ensures that all scans are properly identified anatomically and all appropriate information, ie name, date, accession #, order in place, contrast volume and lot #.
8. Pledges to adhere to the Image Gently and Image Wisely standards . Participates in ongoing education on radiation dose optimization techniques and tools for pediatric and adult patients.
9. Acknowledges the published ACR CT Accreditation Dose pass/fail criteria and reference levels and is able to actively apply this knowledge in CT scanning all patients, especially pediatric patients, while abiding by the ALARA principle.
10. Applies knowledge and principles of Universal Precautions, septic and sterile techniques, to minimize exposure to/spread of infectious organisms.
11. Effectively manages department workflow and successfully triages patients into exam rooms based on acuity and availability.
12. Administers contrast material; competent with IV skills whether using an existing IV line or performing venipuncture; knows when to ask for assistance .
13. Effectively uses care lab device (I-STAT) and lab results and calculates estimated creatinine clearance value for use in determining type and amount of intravenous iodinated contrast to be administered (or not) per department protocol .
14. Identifies lab values out of the recommended ranges per CT department protocol and communicate that to Radiologist and/or ordering physician for use in determining appropriate next steps and/or testing.
15. Performs quality control on POC device (I- STAT) as required .
16. Performs CAP proficiency testing on the point of care lab device (I-STAT) with successful results.
17. Identifies errors and corrects and/or notifies appropriate personnel to ensure timely resolution.
18. Supervises students, directly and indirectly, in clinical procedures pursuant to terms of any clinical affiliation agreement.
19. Communicates with other staff/departments to coordinate care of patients.
20. Stock rooms, request stock to be ordered when necessary. Tidies control rooms. Keeps all work area clean and functional.
Physical Requirements:
1. Frequent standing, occasional sitting, walking, and lifting of 30-35 lbs.
2. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate radiology equipment.
3. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations; observe patients, read monitors and documents, and hear audible equipment alarms.

1. Knowledge of medical terminology

3. Competent in using all aspects of the RIS and PACS systems .
4. Knowledgeable on the Philips Extended Brilliance Workspace and Portal .
5. Knowledge of scanners, Med Rad inj., PACs, VRC, Powerscribe .
