Role Overview

We are looking for a Structural Engineer to engage in fast-paced, technically complex design/build projects in the wastewater and manufacturing sectors. The ideal candidate will independently apply advanced engineering techniques, solve engineering problems, and represent Atkins in negotiations with key engineers and officials from other organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare calculations for building dead, live, hydraulic, wind, and seismic loads.
  • Develop construction specifications.
  • Use structural analysis programs to determine member stresses and sizes, validating results with manual calculations.
  • Design concrete walls, foundations, and slabs for buildings, tanks, and other structures.
  • Design foundations and steel frames for pipe racks, stairs, equipment platforms, etc.
  • Create engineering drawings.
  • Coordinate structural system requirements with architects and various engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical support during construction, responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.
  • Offer technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers.
  • Execute projects of varying sizes, focusing on those with larger scopes or higher technical complexity.
  • Evaluate the quality of design documents.
  • Promote safety and a commitment to design excellence.
  • Collaborate directly with clients to define project requirements and deliver solutions within defined budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
  • 7+ years of structural design experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in wastewater treatment facility design.
  • Proficiency with ACI 350 & ACI 350.3; experience in manufacturing projects required.
  • Experience with retrofit projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of RISA, STAAD.Pro, or Tekla Tedds software is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Revit preferred; AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer License required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Results-oriented with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Positive attitude and ability to foster teamwork among colleagues and clients.
