Engineer SME for Airborne Communication Support

Nelson Enterprise Technology Services (NETS) is looking to hire an Engineer SME for Airborne Communication Support. This candidate will be a NETS employee working on the VMD Corp contract. Founded in 2002, VMD is an award-winning provider of Agile Software Engineering, Digital Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, and Transportation Security Services to numerous U.S. Federal Government clients including projects across both DoD and Civilian agencies. About the Mission You Will Join:
The Cyber Effects Operations (CEO) (AF A2/6) mission is to employ cyberspace capabilities where the primary purpose is to achieve objectives and effects in or through cyberspace. The AF A2/6 develops innovative Air Force operating concepts, strategy, plans and solutions to compete, deter, and win in Air, Space and Cyberspace. AF A2/6 provides an integrated, capability-focused enterprise, with the goal of serving the warfighter's needs and eliminating the information seams that divide our capabilities. Cybersecurity is crucial to the proper execution of Air Force core missions. The persistent and evolving cyberspace threat to the Air Force requires a holistic approach to cybersecurity that encompasses our people, culture, and operational processes. The Air Force will integrate cybersecurity throughout weapons systems development, testing, fielding, and employment. A culture shift in cybersecurity from compliance to resilience and risk mitigation across the Air Force will focus efforts on securing information across all our core missions.
Your Impact to the Mission:
VMD is seeking an Engineer SME to provide Airborne Communication Support:
- Provide knowledgeable advisory and assistance services for airborne networking tasks as they relate to the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS), Defense Acquisition System (DAS), and the Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution (PPBE) processes.
- Pre-briefing client leadership prior to each meeting and back brief as required, participating in post-meeting reviews, and providing notes on the items discussed.
- Provide Aerial Layer Network (ALN) and Tactical Data Link (TDL) expertise to help inform Air Force-wide strategic and policy tactical networking decisions.
- Provide leadership with expert opinion on the airborne communications governance process and structure.
- Help maintain awareness of threats to airborne communications and advising on impacts and mitigation approaches.
- Provide SME support with a solid understanding of cyber networks, cybersecurity, management of these systems and how all interface and communicate.
- Help inform Air Force and Joint way ahead for Low Probability of Detection (LPD) Advanced TDLs.
- Interface and coordinate actions with senior leadership, and relevant staff members within Headquarters DAF, Core Function Leads/MAJCOMs/FLDCOMs, Joint Staff, DoD CIO, and other stakeholders as required.
- Provide SME support to evaluate communication hardware and software, provide technical expertise for acquisition and policy support of military communications for Airborne domains.
- Provides strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to program and project staff.
- Provides detailed analysis, evaluation and recommendations for improvements, optimization development, and/or maintenance efforts for client-specific or mission critical challenges and or issues.
- Minimum 15 years of related experience
- Strong customer engagement skills, comfortable interviewing and communicating with stakeholders, end users, and other technical and non-technical resources to document current state and elicit future needs by managing client relationships and expectations
- AF Experience at HQ or MAJCOM
- Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree
