Job Title ÂÂ Senior Cobol Developer

Duration: 4 Months

Work Location: Irvine, CA

• Client is seeking a full-time Senior Cobol developer to support the Investment Book of Records development team.

• The candidate will develop enhancements and new functionality for our in-house suite of applications written in Cobol.

• Responsibilities will include creation of technical specifications, architecting high-end solutions, hands-on development, creating test plans according to clientÂÂÂs published Development Process Framework and providing production support.

Qualifications

• The preferred candidate will have a BachelorÂÂÂs Degree in Computer Science and a minimum of 10 years of experience as a Sr.Cobol Developer.

• Experience with Fujitsu NetCobol or MicroFocus Cobol desired.

• Experience with relational databases required (Sybase a plus).

• MQ, Unix and Unix shell scripting a plus.

• Solid experience in full software development cycle, including application architecture, technical specs, analysis, software development, testing large-scale software applications, assisting SQA teams with UAT testing, production support.

• Experience in the financial industry with knowledge of trade flow and corporate actions a plus.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

• Exceptional interpersonal communication and strong team collaboration skills.

• Good project management skills.

• Possesses the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

• Experience testing software designed for elaborate business scenarios.

• Aptitude for learning new things and flexibility to adapt and follow guidelines.

Is it supporting a specific project or initiative? If so, which one and in what way? Multiple projects (enhancements and new initiatives)

What type of software skills is an absolute must have? Cobol

Who will be responsible for interviewing? Senior developer(s) and team manager

What will the interview process entail (phone screen, face to face, meet with team, how many rounds, etc). What will the interview look like? Is there a test in the interview the candidate should be prepared for?

Phone interview (video call preferred), possible two rounds if necessary

Will this position be remote, hybrid, or 5 days onsite? Currently hybrid (two days in office)

If the position is fully remote, do you have a preference on where the contractor is located? (State/Time zone)? Irvine, CA

What are the working hours? What time zone? Flexible (8-5, 9-6) PST

Will this contractor need their own laptop or will client provide one for them? Contractor will need their own laptop

Will there be any training provided or would the need to jump right in first day? No formal training, but sufficient guide to navigate through assigned tasks to ensure successful completion

Who will be training the new hire? Team staff/manager

What type of background would you like this person to have? I/T (Cobol) background and Capital Markets experience I suppose

How many years experience? 10 writing Cobol

What is the day to day of the person going to look like? Be specific. Attend scrum meetings, communicate roadblocks preventing progress and provide status when applicable, work with other team members to move projects forward
