About You
We are looking for an inspiring leader to become the next Executive Director of SoCal Adaptive Sports. You’re someone who thrives on connecting with people—from staff and volunteers to community partners and athletes. You’ve got a heart for leadership and love turning big-picture strategies into day-to-day realities. You’re also someone who’s not afraid to jump into coaching adaptive sports, supporting fundraising efforts, and helping to lead the organization into its next chapter.
About This Role
As Executive Director, you’ll be the face of SoCal Adaptive Sports, leading everything from organizational strategy and operations to fundraising and community building. You’ll work hand in hand with our board of directors to create exciting growth opportunities and ensure our programs serve the community with excellence. A big part of your job will involve building relationships—whether you’re talking with potential donors, community partners, or the athletes and families who benefit from our programs.
This position also involves coaching adaptive sports, so experience with athletics or physical wellness programs will serve you well. You’ll be playing a key role in promoting our mission, raising awareness for the needs of the adaptive sports community, and helping us build a more inclusive society. We believe in fostering a strong, positive team culture where everyone has a voice and is motivated to do their best work.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy (70%):
- Lead the charge in developing and implementing the organization’s strategic vision.
- Serve as the public face of SoCal Adaptive Sports, representing us at events and with media, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Build relationships with key partners to expand our reach, from local businesses to community organizations.
- Oversee fundraising efforts, including leading grant writing initiatives and developing relationships with donors and sponsors.
- Manage operational activities, including hiring and supporting staff and volunteers, while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Keep our board updated on organizational progress, challenges, and opportunities.
- Promote adaptive sports through outreach and public speaking engagements.
Coaching and Program Support (30%):
- Jump into the action by coaching adaptive sports and engaging directly with athletes.
- Help plan and implement sports programs for people with disabilities, ensuring all activities are inclusive and fun for participants.
- Support the organization’s efforts to expand its impact through new program ideas and events.
What We’re Looking For
- Passion for adaptive sports: You believe in the power of sports to create a more inclusive society and are excited about the opportunity to lead this effort.
- Leadership skills: You’re comfortable taking charge, whether leading a team, coordinating events, or building relationships.
- Fundraising experience: You’ve successfully raised funds, written grants, or developed donor relationships, and you’re eager to help SoCal Adaptive Sports grow.
- Experience with adaptive or recreational sports: While it’s not mandatory, experience working with athletes of all abilities or participating in sports-based programs is a big plus.
- Strong communication skills: Whether in person, in writing, or through public speaking, you’re able to convey ideas effectively to different audiences.
- Commitment to equity: You’re someone who advocates for the rights of people with disabilities and works to create opportunities for everyone.
