POSITION SUMMARY:

As an Outpatient Physical Therapist, you will evaluate patients' functions and apply tailored treatments to improve or restore their abilities. You will engage in community education and collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team while potentially managing cross-site responsibilities.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Graduate from an accredited Physical Therapy program with at least a B.S.
  • Current Connecticut Physical Therapy license required.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based programs and personal computer skills.
  • Basic keyboarding skills desirable, especially in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary for travel between multiple work sites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform patient evaluations following departmental standards.
  2. Conduct and adapt evaluations based on patient symptoms and activity levels, setting individualized, measurable goals.
  3. Administer appropriate therapeutic exercises (strength, endurance, coordination, and range of motion).
  4. Utilize physical agents and manual techniques to alleviate pain and reach treatment goals.
  5. Apply effective methods to promote normal motor function and learning.
  6. Educate patients and families about exercise programs and functional activities to enhance independence.
  7. Determine when patients have achieved optimal treatment benefits and recommend discharge as needed.
  8. Document patient care according to insurance guidelines and departmental policies.
  9. Facilitate communication with other departments and referring physicians regarding patient care.
  10. Accurately record and submit charges daily.
  11. Adhere to APTA's professional code of ethics and facility standards.
  12. Utilize proper body mechanics and safety methods to prevent injuries during treatment.
  13. Supervise at least one affiliated student each year.
  14. Engage in continuing education to enhance treatment techniques.
  15. Participate in departmental or community educational programs at least once a year.
