What is Boston Prep?
Boston Prep is a college-preparatory charter public district, made up of a single-site middle and high school. In 2023-2024, our community will include 700 students in grades 6-12, nearly 500 alumni, over 150 faculty members, and hundreds of families. The majority of our students and families reside in Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. As a charter public school, we welcome all students via an impartial public lottery, and hold the same high expectations and ambitions for all of our students, including those with special needs and English language learners.

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
Social Work & Mental Health Focus Areas
- Referring individuals and families to external resources and services and when necessary, referring cases of suspected child abuse or neglect to the Department of Children and Families
- Working collaboratively with outside providers to acquire assessments and collaborate care for students
- Providing regular one-on-one and group counseling to students, and manage, track, and document student progress towards counseling goals
- Facilitating social work groups consistently, frequently re-evaluating the needs of student groups, identifying new students and potential new needs
- Participating in IEP, family, team and other meetings for students both on and off caseload, as needed
- Communicating regularly with students, staff and families; collaborating with parents and adult supporters to discuss and address clinical needs of students
- Participating in Instructional Support Team and Grade Level Teams, providing consult to staff assisting students (with or without IEPs and 504s ) and with ongoing interventions
- Providing crisis intervention, as needed
- Working with families and staff members to support students who are homeless, including coordinating in and out of school supports and completing state reporting as it relates to homelessness.
- Innovating to increase and diversify ways in which social emotional and mental health needs of students are addressed
- Displaying the highest ethical and professional behavior and confidentially when working with students and families
- Partnering with team members, students and families, to actively uproot racism and inequality in our community
- Modeling empathy, embodying the mindset that "kids do well if they can"
- Upholding school and grade level systems and structures with fidelity
- Assuming extracurricular responsibilities, if desired
- Actively engaging in one's learning; seeking and acting on feedback regularly
- Actively pursuing professional development, inside and outside of the school
- Collaborating with other teachers and school leaders to advance the school's mission
- Previous work experience with social work & mental health counseling
- LCSW required, LICSW is preferred
- Masters Degree in Social Work required
- Bilingual candidates encouraged
