Speech Pathologist

Job Purpose: Provides speech pathology services by accomplishing department objectives; evaluating and treating patients; orienting and training residents; managing staff. Duties: * Accomplishes speech pathology human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures. * Achieves speech pathology operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change. * Meets speech pathology financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. * Evaluates voice problems by performing and analyzing voice recordings of post- and pre-operative patient cases. * Treats laryngectomized patients by performing rehabilitation therapy. * Treats pediatric patients by conducting speech, language, and voice evaluations; conducting therapy. * Resolves difficulties between patients and staff by problem solving, communicating department and hospital procedures; enforcing hospital policies. * Promotes inter- and intra-departmental relations by participating in meetings, conducting problem-solving sessions; conducting in-service sessions. * Orients otology residents by introducing them to department; providing training in speech pathology services. * Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; implementing changes. * Keeps equipment operating by ensuring operating instructions are followed; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; enforcing the performing of preventive maintenance. * Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. * Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and jcaho standards. * Enhances speech pathology and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
