The Risk Manager administers risk-management and loss-prevention programs and initiates policies and processes to comply with safety legislation and industry best practices. This individual researches and reports on the most cost-effective plans with claims administrators and internal company representatives to minimize guest liability and workers' compensation claims. Acts as the liaison to attorneys, insurance brokers, insurance carriers, and individuals, investigating any incidences that may result in loss.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct and complete investigations within 24 hours of newly reported claims with the location's team to include (but not limited to); video, recorded statements, photos of the accident scene, weather reports, sales checks, suppliers, contractors, snow removal, lease agreements, certificates of insurance, etc. to determine liability and responsibility.
  • Provide insight on all claims to ensure that our TPA, defense counsel, and insurance vendors represent the company fairly and responsibly and follow our Values Guides.
  • Research, interpret, and apply applicable state laws to effectively manage and administrate claims and return to work program with company leadership.
  • Work with insurance broker to resolve claims within the self-insurance retention program.
  • Provide support communication for all parties involved to move a claim forward and reach an appropriate resolution.
  • Maintain fully documented files on all claims electronically, including all investigative findings, communications, and activities.
  • Manages and responds to all communications with outside defense counsel for litigation matters including discovery response, interrogatory completion, deposition scheduling, settlement negotiations, and litigation budget review for cost control.
  • Schedule and manage quarterly claim reviews with Safety Committee and Broker.
  • Analyze loss trends and work with restaurant locations to help reduce the frequency and severity of claims; partnering with broker, carrier, and senior management.
  • Work with the Safety Committee team to identify the root cause of claims and implement proactive safety practices in the restaurants and support center.
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate insurance market submissions and ensure work with insurance broker is reviewed by appropriate markets for competitive rates and coverage to reduce risk and cost to the company.
  • Analysis of large claims and settlement values. Strategic planning with outside counsel for defense of serious cases.
  • Work with HR/ People Team to determine and draft training protocol for operations focused on areas of cost reduction.
  • Budget, forecast, and appropriately allocate insurance expenses to restaurants and support center.
  • Prepare special projects and ad-hoc reports as requested.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of GL and WC claims experience, including investigations
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area or equivalent experience required
  • Strong understanding of Worker's Compensation, General Liability, property, and other risk programs
  • Highly proficient computer skills including; Excel, Word, and social media research
  • High degree of self-direction and initiative while managing both internal and external relationships
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, ability to work well under deadlines, and perform multiple tasks effectively and concurrently
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on his/her own or with a team using sound judgment in decision-making
