Job Summary:

The Grants Writer will function as an integral part of the Development team for Lutheran Social Service of MN. This person will secure grants from diverse sources, both private and public, that provide vital financial support for LSS programs and services statewide. The Grants Writer will also provide leadership, project management, technical assistance and coordination to collaborate with LSS Managers and Directors to develop successful, high quality grant proposals. Provide ongoing training to LSS program staff on prospect research, grant writing and proposal development strategies for both short- and long-term program needs.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit grant writing (private/public competitive processes) with a proven track record of success required.
  • Experience in state and federal grant writing highly preferred.
  • Experience in social services/human services grant writing is preferred.
  • Excellent persuasive writing, grammar, research, proofreading, and copy editing skills required.
  • Strong computer proficiency with excellent command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint; Raiser's Edge database, and other technologies required.
  • Ability to work and prioritize independently according to a demanding, fast-paced, deadline-driven production schedule. Must have excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and persuasive communication skills.
  • Skilled in managing multiple and varied projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail in crafting grant narratives, budgets, attachments, and other grant documents.
  • Excellent initiative taker and problem solving skills.
