Summary This position is located in Office of the Chief Information Officer, Operations, Disaster Operations, Tech Lab - Warranty Support. The ideal candidate will have experience with maintenance, refurbishment, repair and accountability of all laptop devices and peripherals by applying appropriate security standards. Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this IT Specialist (CUSTSPT) position, you will provide configuration, maintenance, and repair of IT assets located at the Disaster Information Systems Clearinghouse, while providing Tier II & Tier III support for all end user computing devices. Typical assignments include: Refurbishing laptops, iPads, printers, scanners, etc., as well as being a primary contact for device installation, configuration, and troubleshooting needed for direct response to disaster operations. Sharing knowledge to diagnose problems and resolve them in an IT environment by implementing agency set standards, security protocols and warranty provisions. Providing technical expertise in the life cycle maintenance process and replacement procedures of information technology approved devices. Serving as a technical representative for the section to outside customers, internal partners, and participants to regularly communicate processes and standard movements that are constantly changing within the section. Analyzing customer requirements and acting as a spokesperson to management in the organization to exchange data, discuss technical issues and provide advisement on solutions. This announcement is for a position as a CORE (Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery Employee). CORE employees are full-time employees hired to directly support the response and recovery efforts related to disasters. Employees are hired under the Robert T. Stafford Act and are excluded from the provisions of title 5, United States Code, governing jobs in the competitive service. They can be hired under a streamlined process instead of a competitive process. After three years of continuous service, Stafford Act employees may be granted competitive eligibility to apply for permanent full-time positions at FEMA. This position will be hired into a temporary 2-year, excepted service appointment. Appointments may be renewed based on workload, funding, and supervisory approval. To qualify for this IT Specialist (CUSTSPT) position at the IC-11 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-09 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Refurbishing laptops, iPads, tablets, and other IT devices; and Configuring applications such as Microsoft Office, Windows OS, and anti-virus software; and Executing maintenance and repair of IT hardware and troubleshooting software applications.
