POSITION SUMMARY: This position will participate in installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing the district's network equipment, including infrastructure, wireless technology, network hardware and software, and performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Troubleshoot network hardware, software, and network routing problems. Analyze the problem, identify the cause, and implement a timely solution. Notifies supervisor of any problems and assures a solution is implemented.
  2. Configure and install all districtwide network equipment and infrastructure. Provide installation and maintenance for time clocks.
  3. Provides advanced level network support for building Computer Support Specialists, Site-Based Technicians and other district technical staff.
  4. Install/Maintain/Support the switches and routers for data network as needed for the continued growth and changing technology needs.
  5. Assists with building and district-wide network documentation.
  6. Provides assistance with data wiring.
  7. Participates in department technology meetings to solve district-wide technical problems.
  8. Track industry trends by monitoring industry sites and reviewing technical journals in order to remain current with hardware and software technology.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult technical problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to use Network test equipment for the identification of problems and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 35 pounds. Climb ladders while carrying equipment. Bend, stoop and crouch to lay cable, install, connect and disconnect equipment.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
  1. College degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred. Equivalent background or skills gained through work experience will be considered.
  2. Current Network + and Cisco Certified Network Professional certifications may be considered in lieu of experience. One to three years' experience in networking and LAN/Wan environment is preferred.
  3. Must possess a technical knowledge of in TCP/IP, SNMP, Ethernet, Token Ring, Cisco Routers, Switches, Wireless and WAN topologies.
  4. Knowledge of Design, Implementation and Support of WAN/LAN network operations, infrastructure and IEEE standards for data wiring.
  5. Possess valid Driver's License and transportation in order to support various district sites.

  • Standard office equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to work in a variety of locations, travel throughout the District, work non-traditional hours which may include evenings and weekends.
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, walk, stand and reach.
