POSITION TITLE: *Substance Use Disorder Therapist * RESPONSIBLE TO: *SUD Therapist Supervisor * DEPARTMENT/SITE: SUD / Saginaw STATUS: Exempt; salaried or fee for service. Unit requirement. All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines within the department/site and SPSI. JOB SUMMARY The SUD therapist is the principal provider of direct care clinical service at Saginaw Psychological Services. It is the responsibility of the therapist to provide initial and ongoing assessment of each client to determine the most effective and useful counseling. The therapist works in the agency's mental health counseling center and may have a caseload of clients with varying diagnosis which none will be discriminated against. The task of behavioral therapist focuses on treating patients with various conditions and in different age groups starting from childhood. Among the conditions that a behavioral therapist can treat include addictions, mood disorders, anxiety, and phobias. In addition, depression, mental retardation, and attention deficit disorders are also included in the scope of care and treatment of the therapist. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 1. Active participation in SUD Program related meetings and trainings. 2. Advocate for our clients to ensure equality and reduce the stigma of substance use. 3. Adhere to strict boundaries and professional ethics in caring for others. 4. Address client's fee for service charge in therapy and/or postpone therapy sessions if the client's balance is over $250 according to SPSI policy and procedure. 5. A caseload of clients will be expected to be maintained, with consideration for adjustment made depending on the workflow and levels of need. 6. Utilize supervision - reporting progress, success, and difficulty in treating cases assigned to you. 7. Work to continually improve skills seeking training in areas where needs/goals have been identified. 8. Document progress notes, treatment plans, assessments, evaluations, and all other required paperwork in a timely fashion according to policy and procedure. 9. Demonstrate a knowledge of assessment techniques including historical assessment, structured interview, and behavioral assessment that contributes to an accurate diagnosis. 10. Provide accurate diagnostic assessment of a client's needs. 11. Work with the client and the treatment team to determine an appropriate course of treatment to meet the client's goals and the expected outcomes of the case. 12. Demonstrate basic clinical skills including, but not limited to: a capacity to establish and maintain a treatment alliance, and the ability to provide respect and empathy toward the client. 13. Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment. 14. Encourage clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, helping them to develop insight into themselves or their relationships. 15. Assess patients for risk of suicide. 16. Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports. 17. Counsel clients to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, or making changes. 18. Guide clients in the development of skills or strategies for dealing with their problems. 19. Maintain your credentials and required trainings to satisfy your licensure and/or insurance. 20. Other duties as assigned. GROUP THERAPY 1. Demonstrate group facilitation skills in the delivery of group services. 2. Follow approved curriculum and treatment models for the delivery of services. 3. Work in conjunction with the primary therapist or outside provider to assure that group services support any other treatment
