Behavioral Health Therapist I

Inova's Life with Cancer program is seeking a Behavioral Health Therapist I to join our team supporting two populations: (1) patients at high risk for developing cancer (within Inova's Saville Cancer Screening and Prevention Center), and (2) oncology patients who have completed active treatment and are in Survivorship (within the Survivorship Clinic), both are co-located at our Schar Cancer Center located in our ICPH Campus in Falls Church, VA.
This position is a full-time day's position working 40 hours a week. Monday - Friday.
Responsibilities:
- Provides psychosocial assessments and care for patients who are at high risk for cancer (e.g. and those in the survivorship phase of cancer care; and will integrate assessments using information related to cultural, clinical, ethnic, age and other factors into the plan of care.
- Provides a range of therapeutic interventions, psycho-educational programming and behavioral interventions (when indicated) to assist the patient/family in achieving the goals and objectives of the individualized service plan.
- Provides care coordination to ensure the patient and family receive and are subsequently referred to appropriate healthcare and community resources to optimize treatment/intervention outcomes.
- Participates in community screening and psychoeducational programs, facilitates support groups and educational classes related to mental health, wellness, medical diagnosis, chronic or life-limited illnesses while assisting with community outreach.
- Provides documentation and performs administrative functions appropriate to the role, adhering to Inova Health System's Culture of Safety and participates in maintaining a professional culture throughout the organization.
Requirements
- Certification:
- Basic Life Support Certification by the American Heart Association within 3 months of hire
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification within 6 months of hire
- Experience:
- 0 years of experience plus an internship in mental health or substance use disorder treatment is required (though must then have completed an internship in mental health or substance use disorder treatment within 90 days of employment). Experience working in the oncology setting or in medical or palliative care is preferred

- Education
- Masters degree, PH. D., PsyD, EdD in mental health, social work, counseling, psychology, or behavioral health-related field.
