SUMMARY:

The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is an advanced practice nurse that provides care to patients during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum stages. The CNM educates on health and wellness by providing patients with ways to promo wellness, maintain current health, and prevent health problems. In addition to proving care related to the gynecological needs of women, the CNM also provides guidance on the care of newborns, and assist in family planning. CNM provides guidance to RN's, LPN's and any other licensed staff in the clinic setting, as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Performs complete medical history and physical exam on patients and establishes differential diagnosis.
* Orders appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures.
* Synthesizes data to determine primary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing established medical principles.
* Demonstrates the ability to recognize and critically assess any changes in patient's condition and reports such to the physician.
* Acts as a liaison and facilitator between physician, staff members, case managers, and attending physician regarding patient.
* Provides patient care, with and without physician attending, ensuring all lab work, diagnostic results and other test results are available on chart and notifies physician as appropriate.
* Facilitates coordination and development of a comprehensive and individual plan of care in collaboration with patient, family and multidisciplinary team.
* Acts as a liaison with patient care staff.
* Dictates patient information in appropriate format and following established guidelines.
* Maintains daily progress notes using established guidelines.
* Follows all established HIMS policies for maintenance and signing of medical records.
* Assists Medical Director or APP Coordinator with clinical skills review as appropriate.
* Makes recommendations regarding clinic workflows and documentation requirements.
* Provides input to Clinic Manager for development of new workflows or implementation of new systems.
* Exercises his/her professional knowledge and skills in the overall evaluation and treatment of patients.
* Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
* Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
* Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
* Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
* Attends all mandatory education programs.
* Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
* Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
* Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
* Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
* Manages resources effectively.
* Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
* Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.

EDUCATION:

* Master's Degree in Nursing

CREDENTIALS:

* NURSE PRACTITIONER

OTHER INFORMATION:

Minimum of three (3) years of professional nursing experience in a clinic setting plus two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner experience required. Must maintain licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia. Must maintain certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board.
