Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Communication Disorders or related field

Valid Texas License in Speech-Language Pathology

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology

Two year's work experience as a speech-language pathologist with public school experience preferred

Experience in the area of Assistive Technology preferred

Experience in the area of augmentative communication preferred

Ability to work with school and community population

Ability to work independently

Valid driver's license

Primary Purpose:

Serve as the Speech-Language Pathologist responsible for assessing the need for alternative communication systems as a part of the student's program. Evaluate for alternative or augmentative communication as a part of the ARD Assessment team. Support staff in writing measurable IEPs and provide consultation to enable school-based staff (Speech Language pathologists/teachers/paraprofessionals) to implement programs designed to support students' speech, language, and communication development.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Conduct assistive technology evaluations and other professional activities consistent with timelines and other requirements of laws, rules and regulations, and local district policies and procedures.
    2. Access and compile formal and informal information from a variety of sources into a written report to make recommendations as a part of the student's program and supports.
    3. Assisting with developing measurable IEP goals and objectives.
    4. Present written report of assessment data and recommendations to the ARD committee.
    5. Communicate to parents/guardians and professionals' evaluation results including purposes, methods, findings, and implications of the evaluation.
    6. Provide follow-up with campus staff for implementation of the recommendations from the district AT evaluation.
    7. Function as a consultant in assistive technology to campus speech-language pathologists, staff and parents as required.
    8. Provide on-going training and assistance to support staff, teachers, and parents in the use of assistive technology and/or augmentative and alternative communication.
    9. Support district provided student devices which includes customizing, programming, updating, and troubleshooting issues.
    10. Attend staffing's as requested.
    11. Provide assistance with selection and ordering of assistive technology communication devices.
    12. Participate in district in-services, parent training and public awareness presentations regarding assistive technology and/or augmentative communication.
    13. Attend AT team meetings and all required training.
    14. Maintain accurate and detailed records of evaluations, ARD meetings and related activities including assessment logs.
    15. Use technology to organize information, schedule meetings and staffings, develop and maintain ARD documentation and produce written materials. Develop and maintain knowledge and skills by engaging in professional development activities.
    16. Complete projects, duties and responsibilities as assigned by the coordinator.

Personal computer, copier, printer, fax machine, assistive technology devices, adaptive equipment

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling and use of prescribed holding techniques, when necessary. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; and assist non-ambulatory students. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. Daily driving in the district from one campus to another.
