JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: SCHOOL NURSE

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. R.N./LPN or equivalent
2. Experience in school health service preferred.
3. Must be knowledge about and sensitive to Lakota culture and value.
4. Must possess effective human relation skills.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide quality school health care services for all students and staff.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participate in the development and revision of policies and procedures of the school health program.
2. Identify health problems of students through health appraisals, health histories, health records and screening programs.
3. Assist physicians with physical examinations or other professional personnel with evaluations conducted in school.
4. Participate in first aid care of emergencies and assume responsibility for follow-up with school personnel and parents regarding health problems and emergencies.
5. Participate in joint planning and implementation of individual education programs for children with special health needs.
6. Assume responsibility for securing and adhering to standing orders as provided by Indian Health Service Physicians.
7. Assist parents in identifying and utilizing appropriate community and private resources for professional care.
8. Contribute to the health instruction program by acting as a resource person through in-service training and providing current information on health related topics.
9. Maintain records and documents activities in a prescribed manner.
10. Assumes responsibility for own growth and development; for keeping current with the literature, new research findings, and improved techniques; for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences.
11. Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year will be established by the Oglala Lakota County School Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building Principal
