Summary

The Island County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeking a part-time Victim/Witness Coordinator to join our Criminal Division. Our team of prosecutors and paralegals are dedicated to holding criminals accountable, while ensuring the fundamental guarantees of due process and justice are fulfilled in every case. We strive to set the standard for professionalism and ethics for the practice of law in Island County.

The employee in this position will provide support to the victims of the cases we prosecute. A desire to learn and to serve our community is essential for any applicant. Those with experience or training working in the criminal justice field are preferred but we will consider applicants whose strong skillsets make up for a lack of experience. Strong written and oral communication skills are a must. Also important is the ability to keep perspective, humility, and humor in a sometimes intense working environment.

Step 8: $ 21.73

Step 9: $ 23.59

Step 10: $ 25.46

Job Duties

  • Provide non-judgmental assistance and emotional support to victims and witnesses in criminal cases.
  • Review law enforcement reports to identify victims/witnesses and determine possible needs. Promptly contact victims/witnesses and gather required information.
  • Orient victims/witnesses to the criminal justice system. Respond to their legal and procedural questions.
  • Act as liaison between victims/witnesses and deputy prosecutors and paralegals.
  • Assist in the delivery, explanation and completion of victim impact statements, applications for financial benefits, and claims for restitution.
  • Document victim/witness contacts in office case management database.
  • Conduct follow-up interviews with victims/witnesses as directed.
  • Offer referrals to social service agencies for counseling, support groups and financial assistance.
  • Accompany victims/witnesses to court and pre-trial interviews.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Experience working with misdemeanor and/or felony cases in the court system.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, and District Court and Superior Court criminal rules and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive material.
  • Strong user-level computer skills.
Education, Experience & Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, Paralegal Certificate, Professional Legal Secretary (PLS), or equivalent work experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
