Development Manager, Heartland

As a key member of the Heartland region team, the primary objective of the Development Manger will be to advance the region in service to the mission of LFA through revenue generation, volunteer recruitment and management, social media and program support.
As a member of the Heartland Regional team, the position is responsible for implementing the LFA's signature Walk to End Lupus Now events in designated geographical areas, while working closely with the Regional Director to achieve revenue goals for the region's annual Purple Ball event. Key functions will include the implementation of event best practices, recruitment and management of high-level volunteers through committee development and cultivation, corporate sponsorship and team recruitment to bolster revenue generating activities, oversight and leadership of revenue and expense management for signature and cultivation events.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Roles and responsibilities of the Development Manager include, but are not limited to:
Walk to End Lupus Now
- Develops and implements a comprehensive plan to meet budgeted income goals which includes corporate sponsorship, team building, individual fundraising, communication and stewardship, marketing and outreach, and walk day logistics.
- Maintains a revenue portfolio of walkers, sponsors & prospects
- Plans and coordinates all walk day logistics including contracts, permits, vendors, activities, set up, tear down, registration, etc.
- Recruiting, managing, and supporting volunteer committees as assigned to reach event goals
- Achieving revenue goals through solicitation of corporate sponsorship and participant fundraising efforts.
- Responsible for the recruitment, stewardship, and retention of team captains and individual walkers and secures maximum income from each individual and team.
- Maintains and updates walk websites (Team Raiser).
- Provides customer service and website assistance and responds to fundraising and donation questions.
- Prepares walk data reporting (e.g., weekly reports, benchmarking, queries, stewardship call sheets, etc.)
- Manages the distribution of marketing collateral, and walker incentive program.
- Attends and presents at walker/team events, lunch and learns, etc.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive plan to meet budgeted income goals which includes corporate sponsorship, ticket sales, auction and raffles, communication and stewardship, marketing and outreach, and event day logistics.
- In conjunction with the Regional Director, identify, solidify and manage Purple Ball honorees to ensure revenue targets are met
- Plans and coordinates all gala logistics including contracts, venue, vendors, set-up, tear down, live, silent, and mission auctions, event program, etc.
- Recruits, trains, and manages event volunteers including event committee.
- Responsible for the recruitment, stewardship, and retention of sponsors and ticket buyers.
- Works with committee members to identify, solicit, and secure auction items.
- Maintains and updates the event and auction website (Greater Giving).
- Prepares gala data reporting (e.g., weekly reports, benchmarking, queries, stewardship call sheets, etc.)
- Maintaining accurate database records and assisting constituents with fundraising software tools
- In concert with regional staff, developing relationships with key regional volunteer sponsors and fundraising participants to elevate and maximize revenue impact.
- In conjunction with the national office team and regional staff, facilitating LFA education and support services in designated areas that are consistent with LFA strategic vision and objectives.
- Developing a current knowledge of lupus health issues, services, and key initiatives that drives the support of the mission. Ensures the Foundation's mission is integrated throughout fundraising activities to ensure results are directly tied to volunteer engagement
- Performing other related duties as assigned
- An experienced fund-raising professional with a minimum 3-5 years of experience in successfully implementing special events, sponsorship sales, volunteer engagement and committee development activities with a proven track record of exceeding fundraising goals
- Experience leading volunteers and volunteer committees
- Ability to establish strong, collaborative relationships and the adaptability to work with a variety of personalities and leadership styles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt interpersonal and communication style to interact effectively with a wide variety of people
- Proven ability to work well in a fast paced and team-based environment
- Self-starter and able to work independently and under pressure while managing multiple priorities, projects and deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with high-level attention to detail
- High functioning with computer software and applications with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, donor tracking database programs, and fundraising software
- Social media experience is a plus
- Able to work effectively with colleagues throughout the organization as well as external customers and vendors
- This position is hybrid (a mix of remote & in St. Louis office). Remote 3-4 days per week. In office 1-2 days.
- Available for weekend and evening work
- Ability to lift 35+ pounds
- Willingness to travel 25-30% of time, primarily in market
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
