QUALIFICATIONS:

Histotechnician skills preferred (on job training available)

Current MA preferred
Previous clinic experience preferred
Proficient computer skills with electronic health record experience preferred
Excellent customer service skills
Basic knowledge of medical terminology


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tissue preparation: Prepares tissue samples for processing, including weighing, cassette preparation, and block log updates.
Tissue cutting: Uses a microtome or cryostat to cut tissue samples into thin slices.
Tissue staining: Stains the tissue samples to emphasize abnormalities.
Slide preparation: Mounts the tissue samples on slides and covers them for review by a physician.
Documentation: Maintains documentation and records for each Mohs case, including specimen orientation and margin status.
Equipment maintenance: Maintains, documents, and troubleshoots lab equipment, instruments, and machines.
Safety: Complies with all OSHA, CLEP, CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA regulations.
Collaboration: Collaborates with the surgeon and other team members to ensure optimal patient care.
Mohs histotechnicians work closely with Mohs surgeons, and may also help with the day-to-day operations of the Mohs laboratory and procedure suite and assess patients, anticipating appropriate preparation of the patient for the physician visit.
Assist the physician with procedures, treatments and charting as necessary.
Document vitals, medications, minor surgeries and procedures as well as essential notes in the patient's medical record according to clinic policy.
Facilitate communication between patient and physician and provide general clinic information in a professional manner.
Utilize excellent customer service skills in order to positively impact the experience of care for our patients, their families and other service partners.
