Position Summary:

The Yard Driver plays a crucial role in managing the movement of tractor trailers to and from loading docks, as well as parking loaded or empty trailers in their designated spots. This position requires local city driving to transport tractor trailers to offsite maintenance or inspection facilities. All driving activities must adhere to the highest safety standards, following company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The Yard Driver will also communicate professionally with co-workers and vendors, ensuring that all services and duties are performed according to best practices and customer service standards.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform all necessary safety checks (pre/post trip) on the tractor/truck and trailer, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards; report any safety issues or needed repairs.
  • Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies, reporting any safety hazards immediately.
  • Safely maneuver trailers to and from loading docks as well as to and from designated parking areas.
  • Manage all paperwork related to interactions with offsite maintenance and inspection facilities.
  • Ensure that all tractors, trailers, and freight are secured and locked at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the tractor, loading dock area, and trailers.
  • At the end of your shift, secure all equipment and complete the required paperwork.
  • Carry out other related tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • 6-12 months of tractor trailer experience is preferred.
  • Internal candidates may be promoted with less than 6 months of experience if they have a good performance record and meet driver training program requirements.
  • Must be able to work scheduled times and required overtime for the position.
  • A valid CDL A license is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements as applicable.
  • Have a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Undergo and pass a road test.
  • Possess a valid DOT Health Card or be able to secure a new one.
