JOB SUMMARY

NCH is seeking an Operating Room Nurse to join their growing team. This is a full-time position and will require taking on-call. The ideal candidate will be an independent, problem-solver who is able to plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure. In addition to providing direct nursing care to patients, the Operating Room Nurse will assume teaching and leadership responsibilities and participate in unit committee and quality improvement activities. This position requires minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Locate and document medical and nursing patient care information
  • Obtain patient history using appropriate interview techniques
  • Identify standards of care common to patient population
  • Deliver patient care and treatment using problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Administer medication safely and accurately
  • Evaluate outcomes of care to determine if patient needs were met
  • Complete chart documentation fully and legibly
  • Provide feedback and constructive suggestions
  • Complete care assignments within a reasonable time frame
  • Report care to oncoming shift and follow hospital standards related to Kronos system
  • Attend courses and in-services for own learning needs
  • Anticipate the needs of surgeon and team members
  • Serve as a preceptor for new employees, coworkers, and students
  • Communicate with patient family/significant other
  • Take on-call as required

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida
  • One year of recent OR experience required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
