Examples of Duties The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform. Assess WIC Program Applicants/Participants: Obtain, assess, and document anthropometric measurements. Interview applicants/participants to gather medical history, dietary practices, and socioeconomic information. Assess biochemical status. Determine medical and nutritional eligibility for WIC Program services. Provide nutrition counseling and negotiate strategies to improve nutritional status. Refer participants to other appropriate services as needed. Assign appropriate food packages based on assessment. Document care provided in the Crossroads computer system. Review and authorize prescriptions for exempt formulas and nutritionals. Determine the need for follow-up nutrition counseling at subsequent visits. Provide Nutrition Counseling and Education: Offer nutrition counseling and education during subsequent visits based on participant needs. Present mini-lessons to WIC participants at low nutritional risk. Provide comprehensive follow-ups to high-risk participants. Provide Breastfeeding Education and Support: Educate prenatal participants on the benefits of breastfeeding. Counsel women on basic lactation management. Refer women to the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program and/or Lactation Consultant as needed. Issue breastfeeding aids when deemed appropriate. Perform Other Job Responsibilities: Travel to other WIC Program sites to provide program services. Record daily the number and type of services provided to WIC applicants and participants. Complete a detailed daily time study to document time spent in each WIC program budget area. Assist in preparedness and emergency response activities as needed, particularly in situations threatening public health (e.g., disease outbreaks, natural disasters). Carry out Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities and adjust performance and practice to meet established PM goals. Participate in Staff Development: Attend workshops and trainings related to the provision of program services to stay current with new guidelines, policies, procedures, and activities. Attend departmental, CHE division, and WIC staff meetings. Complete all required annual WIC, departmental, and county trainings. Implement Strategies for Health Equity: Attend trainings to enhance understanding of health inequities. Identify and address barriers to health. Serve on the Health Equity Team or its subcommittees. Engage in internal or external efforts to eliminate health disparities. Minimum Qualifications Requires graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education - approved Didactic Program in Dietetics; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education with an Associate's Degree in any subject area from an accredited college or university; or a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Community Nutrition from an accredited four year college or university. Bilingual preferred. A valid driver's license is required. Additional Information Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range:$22.64/hr. The applicant selected must undergo a criminal background check and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
