Mental Health Worker -Plymouth Meeting, PA

Afternoon & evening shifts available - FT or PT

Pay: depending on the experience. $16-$23/hr

Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma/GED; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Understanding of behavioral theory and its practical application; thorough knowledge of treatment services for emotionally disturbed children;
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, i.e. PA Residential Regulations and PA Child Protective Services Law.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Prevention/Emergency Safety Intervention.
  • Visual and auditory skills; ability to stand, sit, stoop, reach, climb, crawl, and lift items weighing 30 lbs. or less; ability to use physical re-direction and restraint techniques.
  • Valid driver's license

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of related experience required.

1. Supports the mission by providing hope and healing through high quality mental health, educational, and supportive services for at-risk, vulnerable children and their families.

2. Provides care and services for the children served by the facility of which the following are illustrative:

a. Assist with morning wake up and preparing children for school and Provide clear and consistent structure for children as they are beginning their daytime routine, if applicable.

b. Prepare children to attend school and bring them to the designated area, if applicable.

c. Follow day structure routines for school and non-school days. Assists with facilitating structure for children who are not in school.

d. Provide a high level of supervision for all children in adhering to the supervision, discipline, and behavioral management policies

e. Analyzes children's and families'/guardians' behavior within the context of the facilities' Trauma Recovery Model and plans effective responses and interventions. Incorporates cultural beliefs and values into the treatment goals and interventions for each child and family.

f. Uses and models correct Safe Crisis Management (SCM), as well as other agency trained behavioral management techniques, when situations warrant, in accordance with facility policies, procedures and applicable Commonwealth, Federal and other regulatory bodies.

g. Participates in the children's activities. Assist each child in promoting positive interactions with other children. Encourages each child to develop emotional regulation and behavioral skills through positive praise, a sense of security and teaching frustration tolerance and acceptance.

h. Writes daily progress notes on assigned children that specifically connect to the treatment plan document of each child under care; monitors the effectiveness of treatment services and participates in team decisions/discussions on ways to modify/implement the treatment plan to best meet the needs of the child.

i. Submits all required reports and documentation (e.g., progress notes, logs, head checks, etc.) on time and in the appropriate form.

j. Writes Critical Incident Reports (CIRs) that accurately reflect the behavior of children and provide all other needed information.

k. Report and record observations of significance to others who share responsibility for implementing treatment plans and residential unit activities.

l. Working cooperatively with other staff on the unit, implement the activity plans developed by the Residential Life Manager or Team Leader.

m. As directed by the EOD or other supervisory staff, move across residential units, providing support for children and other direct care staff.

n. Reads referral material and becomes familiar with the child's strengths, diagnosis, trauma history, family history, and presenting issues prior to a child being admitted.

o. Teach children appropriate social skills, daily living skills, including dress and personal hygiene. Teach children how to maintain neat and orderly living areas and provide growth for children in their daily living experiences.

p. Maintain strict confidentiality, as required by Commonwealth regulations, law and company policies.

3. Perform other tasks as requested by administration.

4. Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.

5. Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the organization's compliance with all regulatory requirements; participates in and completes all required training within stated company training year.

6. Responds to inquiries relating to his/her area, or to requests from other staff, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.

7. Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested, or according to an established schedule; compiles information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate personnel.

8. Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other divisions and departments to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.

9. Follow the direction of the team leader and all administrative staff.

10. Once an employee agrees to work a shift, they are expected to be present, on time and prepared. Employees cannot renege on their agreement to work a shift unless it is due to an unforeseen illness or emergency. In these situations, employees may be asked to provide documentation corroborating the issue that prevented them from working their shift.

Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.
