As an Aviation Facilities & Infrastructure Engineer III - Electrical Fire Alarm/Controls, you will be responsible for the fire alarm and control systems for various applications (PLC, SCADA, HMI, VFD, etc.). You will work on facilities and infrastructure designs and capital improvement projects and assist senior staff in identifying renewal and replacement projects. You will be the system owner where you will be responsible for system assets, functionality and provide a system that is maintainable for the airport's maintenance team.

  • You will review and advise on fire alarm and control system infrastructure project design and system evaluation including quality assurance and conformity to Port, local, state, and federal standards, applicable codes, and best practices.
  • You will coordinate, plan, and implement facility-wide systems at the infrastructure level and be a subject-matter expert for fire alarm and control systems.
  • You will conduct asset management functions such as inventory, condition assessment, and capacity for assets, and develop renewal and replacement projects for fire alarm and control systems.
  • You will implement aviation infrastructure/facility system plan and long-term vision for fire alarm and control systems to meet growth, institutional initiatives, and regulatory requirements.
  • You will develop compliance and incident response for fire alarm and control systems and perform appropriate risk analysis.
  • You will develop, coordinate, and prepare presentations and documents including Commission memos and procurement documents.
  • You will lead the development of preventative maintenance programs, system upgrades, and enhancement plans to optimize system performance.
  • You will develop and maintain airport standards and procedures concerning equipment, systems, and installation.
  • You will assist maintenance staff on the installation, troubleshooting, replacement, and operation of fire alarm, control program, and communication infrastructure systems and equipment.
  • You will conduct thorough system assessments, analyze performance data, and recommend integration of new methods, systems, technologies, materials, programs, or processes including research of innovative or specialized solutions.
  • You will coordinate with planning and capital development departments to ensure the program schedule aligns with the available life cycle expectancy of systems, century agenda and sustainability goals, regulatory and aviation growth requirements.
  • You will evaluate project design drawings for capital and expense projects for conformance to standards and specifications and coordination with other capital projects and expansion of existing infrastructure.
  • You will conduct construction administration for capital projects including submittals, Request for Information (RFI), construction meetings, punch walks, and site inspection. You will ensure the performance of required testing, commissioning, activation, and acceptance of systems.
  • You will review system models and evaluate results and recommend corrections.
Who you are:
  • Experienced -You have eight (8) years of experience in system design, construction, or commissioning facilities using CAD/BIM. A bachelor's degree in engineering may be substituted for four (4) years of experience. You also have an Engineer in Training (EIT) designation.
  • Desired - We hope you have a bachelor's degree in engineering, Professional Engineering license, a NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level II and/or experience with HMI/SCADA systems, PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley), ladder logic, VFD, and control power.

You are knowledgeable of IBC, NEC, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, local fire codes, and industry best practices. You are also familiar with communication protocols such as TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profibus.
What else you need to know:
  • Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management's discretion.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
