Job Description

Primary Function:

Work as a crew member installing various pipelines.

Duties include but are not limited to:

* Work with the crew on pipe stringing.

* Work with the top man and operator while placing pipe in the ditch.

* Hand shovel and expose any existing utilities and bring them to the attention of the operator.

* Always position yourself in a location clearly visible to the operator when giving signals

* Ensure proper softners are in place for the excavator bucket prior to inserting the pipe into the preceding bell.

* Mark the bell length on the spigot of the pipe being installed in order to verify that the proper travel length has been achieved.

* Always double check the installed pipe with a pocket level and visually inspect the new joint.

* Install marking identification tape over the pipeline before backfill.

* Compact the pipeline to the spingline of the pipe by means of a "pogo stick" or tamp.

* Protect newly installed pipelines from any potential damage and from the ingession of dirt and trash.

* Always have a temporary "night" plug nearby for a quick installation.

* Check delivered pipe and fittings for conformance and any defects.

* Bolt up any fittings and pipe configurations ahead of the excavation operations.

* Assist the foreman in laser setup and monitor the accuracy throughout the day.

* Ensure proper bedding is in place and leveled to the proper grade.

* Work with the crew on any other required activities such as well pointing, constructing invert channels or any other masonry work, testing pipelines, clean-up, etc.

* Work in accordance with Company Safety Program and bring to the attention of the Foreman any safety violations or concerns.

* Monitor and ensure jobsite housekeeping.

* Secure jobsite for any nonworking periods, such as evening or week-ends.

* Park equipment in such a manner that protects vulnerable machines (small dozers, etc.) from potential theft.

* Also, park equipment in areas easily accessible by the refueling personnel.

* Maintain all erosion control devices are in place and functioning properly.

* Monitor all signs and barricades and reset any devices that have been moved or knocked down.
