Community Consolidated School District 89 is seeking to hire a part-time, .50 FTE, LMC Aide for the 2024-2025 school year. The library aide helps to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the library. The library aide sets daily priorities based on knowledge of the overall function of the library and performs work as required or assigned. Previous relevant experience in a school or library is preferred. The ideal candidate has a sincere interest in working with young people to foster a love of reading and has a love of books, reading and the library. This position may be combined with one of our other part-time opportunities to create a full-time position.

Qualifications:
All applicants for this position are required to meet Illinois requirements for paraprofessionals, holding an ELS (PARA) license that is within good standing in the state of IL registered with the DuPage ROE.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Manage the circulation desk, including checking in and out books, maintaining student records and circulation cards, shelving books accurately on the shelves.
  2. Assist students and staff in locating books and suggesting book recommendations based on interest or topic.
  3. Offer guidance in the use of the facility, online catalog, library website, subscription databases and computer troubleshooting.
  4. Process books, magazines, and audio-visual materials for circulations.
  5. Create book displays and bulletin boards.
  6. Supervise students in the library.
  7. Repair damaged books.
  8. Assist in annual/on-going inventories.
  9. Train and supervise student aides and/or parent helpers.
  10. Additional duties as assigned by the principal or librarian.

MUST BE ABLE TO:
  • Initiate tasks, prioritize daily activity, problem solve and facilitate immediate solutions.
  • Be proficient in word processing and Google programs and be able to learn the library's management system Follett Destiny.
  • The employee's physical condition shall meet the demands of the position.
  • Works well with others and makes the library a friendly and inviting space.
  • Work flexibly, managing interruptions and shifting job priorities.
  • Work quickly with an attention to detail.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality.
