DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Your position requires a deep understanding of veterinary medicine, with a specific focus on harness racing tracks and regulatory medicine. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that the rules and regulations set by the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission are implemented effectively. This involves a wide range of responsibilities, such as evaluating the health of horses before, during, and after races, addressing regulatory issues, and managing medical cases related to injuries or illnesses.

You will be tasked with making well-informed decisions that have a significant impact on the well-being of the horses and the overall integrity of harness racing. Your expertise in veterinary medicine is essential in ensuring that the health and condition of the horses are carefully monitored and maintained. Additionally, they are responsible for addressing any regulatory issues that may arise and ensuring that all rules and regulations are followed to uphold the standards of the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission. Your position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity and safety of harness racing tracks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Part-time (per diem) employment.
  • Work hours are 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Tuesday - Saturday
  • Work schedule is vendor controlled and is determined by the racing schedule.
  • Salary:This position is per diem; the daily rate of pay is $400.00.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Graduation from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor program.

Special Requirement:
  • Possession of a valid license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Post Employment Requirement:
  • If the employee is not licensed to practice veterinary medicine in Pennsylvania, employee must obtain Pennsylvania licensure within twelve (12) months of being hired.
