General Summary

Is responsible for retrieving, interpreting, and analyzing data to drive key business decisions and actions, measure program efficacy and contribute to strategic direction. Participates as a catalyst for maintaining the data life cycle. Focusing on system strategic goals and objectives, guides customers with formulating appropriate data questions that will lead to analyses which will reveal relevant insights. Cleans and prepares data for analysis, ensuring applicability to business need. Engages in data profiling of raw data. Applies appropriate techniques and programming languages (e.g. R, Python, SQL) to identify patterns and trends. Provide interpretation of results to stakeholders, applying visualization techniques (e.g. Microsoft Power BI) as needed. May be called upon to contribute to the Analytics Center of Excellence (ACoE) data and analytics strategy, processes, technical architecture, and design of subject areas. Collaborates with developers and end users to ensure technical requirements and specifications reflect appropriate business logic. Leverages the analytics spectrum to tell a story with the data to ensure the application of the most appropriate approach for each business need. Applies these approaches to data from various sources, such as relational databases, data warehouses, data marts and tabular data models. Accesses data from third-party vendor tools. This position requires the soft skill of story-telling through data, by turning technical information into easy-to-understand non-technical action items. Confidence in presentation of findings and excellent communication skills are required. This position must possess the ability to view business problems from varying perspectives and continuously display curiosity. As a senior data analyst, provides guidance and oversight for entry level analysts in the areas of formulating appropriate data questions, choosing appropriate techniques and programming languages (e.g. R, Python, SQL) to identify patterns and trends, interpretation of results, and developing confidence in presentation of findings. Works with the Lead Data Analyst to develop and ensure best practice standards in the area of data analysis within the ACoE.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guide customers with formulating appropriate data questions to meet business and strategic needs.

  • Strong ability to take a business question or need and turn it into a data question for the purpose of transforming and analyzing the data to extract an answer to that question. Assist data analysts in these areas.

  • Work with Lead Data Analyst to develop and educate data analysts in areas of data profiling, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Retrieve data from one or more sources and prepare the data for analysis.

  • Engage in data profiling of raw data, including but not limited to, health plan (i.e. claims), electronic health record, and third-party vendor data. Assist data analysts in these areas as necessary.

  • Identify patterns and trends in the data using appropriate techniques and programming languages.

  • Lead data exploration activities for the purpose of finding interesting trends or relationships that could bring value to the business. Share processes and learnings with data analysts for purpose of knowledge-sharing.

  • Create clean, visually compelling charts & visualizations that will help others understand the data and relevant insights.

  • Participate in the ACoE data and analytics strategy, processes, technical architecture, and design of subject areas.

  • Collaborate with developers and end users to ensure technical requirements and specifications reflect appropriate business logic.

  • Lead system wide data integrity, quality control and standardization as identified by system leaders and/or system level teams

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Masters Degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Statistics, or related field Required

Work Experience:

  • 5 years minimum experience in Data Analytics or Data Science within a healthcare organization, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or Computer science or related field Required

  • Must be in Pennsylvania

Licenses:

  • Certified Health Data Analyst Upon Hire Preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong math, statistical and analysis skills;

  • Expertise with SQL query writing skills;

  • Knowledge of data modeling concepts;

  • Experience with R, Python & other languages;

  • Excellent teamwork/communication/customer service skills.
