Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling opportunities for students.
- Facilitate and complete necessary paperwork when a student is referred to the Child Study Team.
- Coordinates Intervention and Referral Services Process, including facilitating requests for assistance, acting as chairperson for the meetings, communicating with parents, generating personalized interventions, maintaining action plans, monitoring implementation of interventions, and maintaining a log of students served through this process.
- Develop an understanding of the school curriculum and communicate that information to students, parents, and faculty.
- Share and interpret individual student data to staff members, as permitted by student records law and code.
- Maintain a current list of resources for faculty and parents for developmental, behavioral, social/emotional, and educational assistance.
- Assist teachers, administrators, and parents in understanding individual academic, behavioral, and social/emotional differences of students.
- Coordinate the gathering of information and make recommendations for student placement to building administrators.
- As appropriate, facilitate access to students' comprehensive file, which may include standardized test scores, academic records, and any other personal data, as permitted by student records law and code.
- Coordinate state assessments as the School Testing Coordinator.
- Act as Anti Bullying Specialist and chair School Safety Team.
- Facilitate the reporting and investigation process for incidents of harassment, intimidation and bullying.
- Conduct training for staff and students in anti-bullying strategies.
- Coordinate the threat assessment process with students, as necessary.
- Develop, maintain, and review/revise 504 plans according to district procedures. Act as case manager for designated school.
- Promote the School Counseling program by maintaining high visibility, supporting SEL programming, providing anti-bullying supports/resources, planning assemblies and other events, and meeting with students individually and in small groups.
- Assist administration in the development of the building master schedule including the incorporation of individual student needs.
- Maintain pupil records for students including 504 plans, HIB forms and Fit to Return evaluations.
- Assist teachers and administrators in the analysis of standardized test scores.
- Attend professional development opportunities to stay informed on relevant and pertinent topics related to student supports and services.
- Coordinate with the counseling office secretary.
- Coordinate and assist in the registration and course selection for eighth grade students transitioning to high school.
- Plan and conduct an orientation program for students and parents entering middle school
- Assist with schedule changes, as needed
- Assist administration in the development of the master schedule. Create and input all middle school students' schedules in Genesis.
- Performs other duties that are within the scope of employment and certification that may be assigned by building or central administration.
