The Network Assurance & Automation Engineer (NAAE) position is responsible for the design, implementation, and expertise related to service performance assurance and network automations. In addition, the NAAE supports Uniti Fiber's security programs for the production network while working to improve production network application integration. As part of the NAAE's responsibilities the employee will ensure training and documentation of network assurance and automations is conducted at the highest levels of excellence. While most of the NAAE's focus will be on Enterprise, Wholesale, and Government services there will also be bleed-over into other networks such as internal and carrier networks when appropriate or assigned by senior leadership. The NAAE is expected to have experience and subject matter expertise on Uniti Fiber's network design, processes, protocols, operations, and future plans. The NAAE is also expected to be a leader who can organize, manage, and work well with other Uniti departments in order to achieve excellence in network service delivery, network assurance, and customer service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design of production network assurance from end to end based on existing core and regional network transport elements.
  • Manage implementation of both network security and performance assurance across customer services.
  • Maintain consistent coordination and communication with Network Operating Area (NOA) Directors and Service Delivery (SD) project managers to ensure the service and circuit completion process is well executed with regards to Service Level Agreement requirements.
  • Achievement of a highly secure and stable logical production network through management of a network assurance & automation process.
  • Assisting with maintaining system applications using traffic and capacity monitoring tools to track errors and keep network performing optimally.
  • Develop and/or have knowledge of access circuit provisioning (L1,L2, & L3) in the network to include design documentation and SalesForce requirements enabling service support and troubleshooting.
  • Build and maintain network configuration templates to include ensuring the training awareness, dissemination, and training of all employees who support Uniti's customers and services.
  • Maintaining secure network operating environment to ensure integrity of the Uniti network.
  • Provision & maintain system applications using traffic and capacity monitoring tools to track errors and keep network performing optimally
  • Facilitate and participate in the escalation process for both network service issues (NOC) as well as new production and customer installs that may require advanced technical support.
  • Blend expertise in both custom automation programming and experience developing solutions for Network Engineering teams.
  • Be prepared to own, handle and research issues of advanced complexity as assigned or identified to include topics that may not currently be identified but require ownership by a senior leader.
  • Operate and maintain network provisioning tools (EPNM, SMX)
  • Create and implement custom programmatic tools for internal use; scripts and other automatic devices to maintain the health and security posture of the network.
  • Be able to interact with existing servers/service programmatically via API or other means
  • Work with vendor support to resolve equipment and software issues
  • Become subject matter experts and create training on new products/processes
Qualifications:

To successfully excel as a Network Assurance & Automation Engineer the individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed above with a high level of success or learn how to do so within a reasonable amount of time. Education and/or Experience:
  • 5 years of experience within the Uniti production network.
  • Subject matter mastery as seen through on-the job experience or a high level of formal education.
  • Successful background check, drug test, all internally required training completed.
  • Multiple technical certifications from Cisco, Juniper or Ciena or technology specific training from vendors in house for the technology deployed within Uniti Fiber.
  • Proven ability to design, troubleshoot, train, and document multiple aspects of the Uniti network.
  • Dedication to training and documentation of training as well as good communication with upper management and heathy dissemination to a subordinate team(s).
  • Ability to be a leader who builds and maintains the trust, respect, and motivation of a team with a focus on employee development and retention.
