Minimum Requirements
- Master's in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related behavioral health field.
- Two (2) years previous experience that provides broad knowledge of social service agencies and community resources regarding youth programs and services, as well as accepted counseling principles and practices.
- Computer experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs required (MS Word and Excel).
- Applicant must possess and maintain throughout employment, a valid Florida driver's license without any restrictions affecting job performance.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.
This position requires shift work. You may be assigned to work any shift, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
*Grant Funded Position*
This is a grant funded employment contract position. Continued employment is contingent upon the continued receipt of adequate grant funding. Selected candidates will be contract employees with the terms and conditions of such employment set forth in a contract between BSO and the selected candidates. Contract employees will not be entitled to the same rights and benefits as permanent employees. BSO shall have the right to modify pay or benefits at any time due to the increased benefit costs, budgetary or grant funding reductions or other fiscal problems/restraints. In addition, the contract can be terminated at any time for any reason.
Nature of Work
Under direction, employees in these grant funded/contract positions provide professional assessment and/or counseling services within the Juvenile Division of the Department of Community Programs of the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Employees assists in deterring juvenile delinquency and decreasing the frequency of involvement by repeat youthful offenders in the juvenile justice system. Employees strive to increase public awareness of community-based youth programs, support groups and juvenile delinquency programs. Position provides professional assessment intervention and/or counseling services to at risk youth and their families. Position directly participates in development of youth programs and assigns juveniles to work sites in performing community service hours. Performs related work as directed.
Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

Provides professional assessment and/or counseling services to at risk youth and their families as referred to the Sheriff's Office by outside sources, i.e., judges, arbitration programs, schools, parents, law enforcement agencies.
Conducts interviews and facilitates family, parent, and other group communication sessions for addressing issues raised.
Provides information and referrals to outside community, social service, and related resources.
Maintains communication and involvement with law enforcement, judicial agencies, and other entities of the juvenile justice system for the purpose of diverting juveniles out of the system when possible.
Networks with social service providers and community leaders for the purpose of maintaining current referral resources.
Develops community service work program sites; assigns juveniles to work sites for performing community service work; monitors participants conducting work programs.
Conducts seminars/programs for various community organizations on substance abuse, motivation techniques, parental effectiveness, and community youth development.
Disseminates information concerning existing juvenile programs through various public presentations.
Prepares various weekly/monthly/annual reports concerning activities performed, i.e., progress/status reports, vehicle mileage.
Performs related duties as directed.
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects. Incumbents are required, from time to time, to perform field visits, where work includes an element of risk in the event of entry into a hostile environment. Thus, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements consistent with conditions encountered in field visits.

Recruitment Information
Applicants who qualify will be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to evaluation of training and experience; written test; computer based test; interview; polygraph examination; psychological evaluation; employment record, fingerprint and background check; medical examination; and drug screen. This position is a grant funded/contract position and therefore entitled to the following benefits for the term of the contract.
A. Enrollment in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) with Contract Employee responsible for the mandatory 3% contribution.
B. Single lowest premium cost medical coverage with Contract Employee responsible for the standard bi-weekly contributions for such coverage.
C. Dental Coverage - BSO single dental coverage with Contract Employee responsible for the standard bi-weekly contributions for such coverage. Contract Employee may elect family dental coverage; however, Contract Employee is responsible for any and all costs for the coverage that exceeds the total cost of the single dental coverage.
D. Contract Employee may elect single POS or family medical; however, Contract Employee is responsible for any and all costs for the coverage that exceeds the total cost of single lowest premium cost medical coverage as applicable.
